Wetsanding Headlights/Removing Front Lip Off '98 Integra

Hey Guys/Gals,
I was going to attempt to wetsand my headlights this weekend.

I was just wondering what the procedure was for removing the headlights...

I've googled the wetsanding process and some people managed to leave the lights on the car while wetsanding... is this a good idea? or is it better to take them out and do it by hand?

Also, if you guys have any pointers that may be useful, feel free to input.

I can't stand looking at my ugly as headlights anymore... they just make my car look so much older.

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Mixed1

And why do you need to remove your front lip?

"Front Bumper", sorry, wrong term...

I was told it makes it easier to clean the headlights, as well as reduces the chances of you scratching your car with the sandpaper if you "slip".

you wanna wet sand the inside? no need to take off the headlights if the haze is outside. Keep the bumper on, get your bucket of water with soap, and your 1000 - 2000 grit sand paper, and wet sand them.Finish them up with a polish, done.

Try that out first, if it doesnt do anything , which i doubt, then you can think of going in there. But then if its on the inside it means you have a crack in there or something thats leaking water through, so you'll need new headlights if worse comes to worse.

But the wetsanding will solve it most of the time, no need to take off the bumper

I would take it off, just so you have that extra room to sand. You cant sand within a 5inch diameter. it wont work. ull just be sanding the middle and not getting the edges properly

It can be done. i got my headlights good when I did them. Theres enough room to get in all those little edges, unless you use a monster piece of sand paper and you got giant hands, lool

i got giant hands lol. I never done it, I was just assuming.

its easier with the headlights off the car/bumper off. its harder(not by much) to sand with the bumper on.

Yea if anything the 98-01 headlights are easier to wetsand because they stick out more. Try wet sanding with the bumper on, if youre not happy, take the bumper off.

its a lot better to have ur bumper off, especially with the usdm front ends, use 1000, i think 1500 is what i used ,and 2000 grit sand paper in that order. . i had a spray bottle of water and some car soap and just made sure the headlights were kept wet while i sanded. i personally didnt take off my bumper cause i have the Jdm front end so i didnt really need to but my friend and i did his 96 teg and the sanding and buffing is a lot easier with the bumper off. after i sanded i applied this plastic cleaner i got at canadian tire called Plastix comes in a white bottle and i ------ed it around the headlights then buffed it. it turned out really nice.

i used to have this like burned in jizz stain on my headlights and sanding it and buffing it after took it all off like nothing. but when u do this spend like half a day doing a good job.

ill post pics of my car in a bit once my phone stops being a jackass
