Washing your engine bay
 

So a while ago when i took my engine out, I gunk sprayed my engine. Then washed it out with the hose.

With all the harness plugs exposed, do you think it was a bad idea. Or are these things going to be okay.

You should have taped up all the plugs, because now with it being cold out, the connectors could have started to get corrosion in them, and it's a bitch to clean them all up.

i put a plastic bag over my intake (aftermarket) depending on the kind of filter you have, cheap ones tend to let all the water go thru and that will cause you problems

I think they still work. I was trying to figure out why my cd deck wasnt working, so i connected my battery and i moved my harness around just because i dropped my flashlight in the engine bay, and i got a huge spark from one of the harnesses. Im going to cover them all up with socks tomorrow:)

Yea when you clean your bay with the engine in, you cover your intake,dizzy and any other exposed wires.

just cover all the hole that you would not want water in, then just hose her down. water isnt really a problem as long as you dry if after really well.

ya when i did mine i just covered up the intake and the alternator and just spray that stuff from crappy tire all over it and then just high pressure washed it all off.

Im not talking about cleaning the bay when the engine is there. Im talking about when the engine is out and all the plugs are exposed

I already washed it. And my engine is out, so that means my intake is too.

Not to be rude, i love u all(no homo). Read the whole thing first. I dont need comments about how to clean and engine bay. I need comments for what my post sais.

like i said. plug all your holes that you dont want water in. ex. the exhaust ports if your header is off, intake ports if you manifold it off, spark plug holes, dizzy if its there, and anything else you see that has the ability to let water into the motor. then wash that ---- down and just make sure to use a few towls or something and dry it off really good. not so much the metal, but any electrical stuff that maybe be on there like sockets and what not. then you'll be fine. use "engine kleen" in the greenish container. that ---- works amazing and its only like 4.99 a can go by like 4 lol and just go to town on the engine.

Hopefully you have an air compressor or an air pig. Use compressed air to clean up the electrical areas.

Then spray with a silicone dielectric grease to keep moisture away.

I used "gunk" cleaner in the huge white can.

today i was covering all the harness with my trunk carpet:). and i got a huge spark(and yesterday i did too) so my harness is still working. I covered a few stuff on the firewall with socks too.

You should be fine. It's been a couple days now and everything should have dried up by now. If you have an air compressor, blow into the harness plugs to make sure you get out any water that might still be there. I highly doubt you did any damages. it sounds like the sparks have come from a shortening circuit...

Just make sure everything is completely dry before putting everything together...

is there any known benefit to cleaning your engine bay? beside looks better

have the connectors re-greased like factory

i say just have a day meet in spring and we all do engine bay cleaning.. experts show us how =P
