vibrating and heat shield vibration

hey guys a couple months ago my car started making a weird noise, like a vibrating sound. lil while back the heat shield fell off while i was driving on the QEW, i ripped that stuff off but its still making that noise.... are the heat shield very useful? can i rip it off? next question, the car starts to vibrat at certain RPM's whats the cause of this? and is it major... i drive a 2000 GS... any input is much appreciated

heat shields are pretty useless imo...i ripped most of mine off, due to rattle...unless you park in tall grass and ---- like that, then it shouldn't matter...

as for the vibration, could need a rotate and balance...but who knows...what exact rpm, and speed does it vibrate...how hard does it vibrate...

this should be in the tech section...

I had a similar problem with mine and both myself and my mechanic thought it was the heat shield. But the vibration noise wouldn't go away after we removed the heat shield. After that we discovered that my mid pipe was cracked (rusted through) and I needed a new exhaust. So I just ended up changing the mid pipe and never heard that noise again.

thanks for the input guys.... the vibrating happens at around 2000 and again at like 3500-4000.... tires and everything are balanced and rotated, i guess ill get a mechanic to take a look.... do you guys know any good honda/acura mechanics in the etobicoke(sherway gardens) area?

if you can get underneath, get underneath the car, and bang on the cat/midpipe/muffler and try to listen for something loose...as well as visually looking for a broken component..
