transmission check/filler plug

my check plug for the tranny is rounded and impossible to take out. ive been told the mechanic is going to have to heat it up and break it out or something

so im ready to get that done but where can i grab filler plugs i just bought skunk2 drain plug set thinking thats what i needed but its the filler plug thats messed up

anyone have this experience before?

You can get it at honda/acura.
And they will probably just heat it up and bang a socket onto it. otherwise there are sockets that you can purchase and do it yourself. the have a weird pattern which you hammer onto the head and you can take it out then.

but i dunno i gotta get a quote to see how much my floors will cost to repair cause if its too expensive its time to give up on the ride lol

try wrapping sandpaper around it and then vicegrips :)

i called the dealer for the check plug its under 8 dollars and outta stock...the guy said its a 20 mm bolt i dunno if he was hinting that i could use and 20mm bolt...

anyone on here have a check plug for sale? does 20 mm sound about right for a 90 teg?

wish i can get the tranny oil changed now rather than during the week

Weld a nut to the plug, and make sure it's welded on there good, and then you can use a wrench to get it off.

^^ that tranny is a serious colour...

Im sure what spike said would work but that would take a longer time to get hold of a welder as for the 20 mm go ahead and try you got nothing too lose.

an update yesterday i got the bolt off and replaced both drain and check plug drain with a skunk2

so my mechanic gave me ---- about all the ppl i had rounding the bolt and so on then he tried and admitted it was bad so he got out a special tool

he didnt have to heat up the bolt at all

he used a sort of chisel gun for the air compresser and with one or two nice jabs at the bolt it came loose and was able to unsrew by hand

the trany had oil all over it i was scared and thought i may have had no oil left in the tranny but sure enuff it was full so i dunno how it was all wet and moist evrywhere along the tranny

i changed the oil it uses regular 10w30 which is weird but convienient the ride feels better not by much tho im still trying to figure out y it smells like crap...exhaust wise

nex time i change the oil im tyin that royal purple

Spike 04-22-2010 06:25 PM

He used a air hammer with a chisel tip.
