torn cv boot?

while driving over 80km/h im noticing a slight clicking noise coming from the front driver side, i was told that my cv boot might be torn... i was wondering if its just the boot or it can be the whole cv joint? the car doesnt make any noise at low speeds or even reverse, only sometimes when im getting on the ramp for the highway or driving over 80km/h im hearing this. how much would it be to fix just the driver side boot? also, i need to find a good affordable mechanic in mississauga, if anyone has links let me knoww

you generally replace the whole thing. going through all the hassle and time of just the boot, you do the whole thing. i've never done/seen some replace a boot at all.

Most shop will replace the whole c/v shaft, but it only take about 20 mins to replace and it's a ---- load cheaper on parts, but you pay more for labor, vs only spending really half the time changing the whole shaft which is less labor, but more for the part, plus if you change the whole c/v shaft, you know it's new, and its less likely to ---- on you again.

If your willing to come to niagara, I can get it installed for 100$. This guy is a mechanic for hydro1. and he works outta his garage. he has a source for parts at dirtttttttttt cheap.

If you hear clicking, you're too late. The CV joint has to be replaced. You can try regreasing it and changing the boot but it's better off that you do the whole joint. I think it should run you no more than $300 all-in for each side, hopefully less.

thanks i got quoted 60 bucks for a new shaft, and another 60 bucks for labour
so 120 isnt that bad, plus the shop is only 15 mins away from my house, i'll get it done tomorrow

i havent been driving the car for a week, i miss driving standard, automatic is soo boring
