Timing Belt

My car's @ 148,000 km and it still hasn't got a timing belt change...went to the dealer today, and he tells me there's been no record of a timing belt change on the car, but he also tells me it's not urgent? :jeez: i thought timing belt's due @ 120K?

Also, they're quoting me $530 +tax for the job; and i don't know how to do it myself, anyone know anywhere that can do it for a better price?

DRT acura Apr 16, 2005 12:35 PM

Changing the timing belt IS important
my owners manul has it down to replace at 144k (1992)
i change mine every 100k
and last time it cost me $240 belt, waterpump and valve adjustment

Kadafi Apr 16, 2005 01:11 PM

$240?? that's a wicked price, which shop did u get it done?

DRT acura Apr 16, 2005 01:25 PM

Tobince's here in london
but you should be able to fined someone there with a beter price then $530

I just bought a Timing Belt from Honda, I am not sure how much I paid for it but I got the Timing Belt, Alternator Belt and two other belts, water pump, a new clutch set for $760.
My machanic in Scar- who does a very good job, charges a low price. If your interested let me know I can tell you where he is. He's charging me $470 to install all of the above.

HyBrId Apr 18, 2005 10:59 AM

holy ----....so parts and labour is gonan be like 1200???? and thats him givin u a deal?
doooood i so hope that clutch set cost a whole lot...

Cybertron Apr 18, 2005 02:58 PM

Its Honda parts, every thing from the water pump too the clutch, Timing belt, etc..
my machanic is charging me $470 just for the labour.. I've asked around.. it seems to be a reasonable price.

SIC1 Apr 18, 2005 03:30 PM

470 for just labour... WoooooooooooooooW

Cybertron Apr 19, 2005 09:29 AM

you guys think $470 is expensive? then what should I be paying? as a reasonable price?

DRT acura Apr 19, 2005 09:48 AM

I just called for timing belt in mine it $270 to $300 parts and labour

I think he's saying that it's $470 for labour in timing belt, water pump, clutch, alternator belt and a couple of other belts..

i don't know, i'm from mississauga, and that sounds pretty good to me, much better than $530 for just the timing belt

Chyld Apr 19, 2005 02:54 PM

yeah that sounds good to me too if its more then just the timing belt and water pump its not exactly a short and quick job hense why you pay alot plus if you dont fix it you risk bigger bills to come if ur belt goes.

I use the phatgsr shop located in Guelph ;)

That clears it up ..you are doing the Clutch too.

The H20 pump, timing belt and all the other belts are all beside each other. that is now it all lines up and if you are replacing the timing belt you might as well replace on those but shouldn't drive the labour costs through the roof.

Cybertron Apr 20, 2005 07:36 AM

$470 is not just for the timing belt, i am getting a brand new clutch installed along with the timing belt, 3 other belts, water pump and etc..

Kadafi Apr 20, 2005 06:29 PM

Cybertron, where's the shop located?

RED GSR 92 Apr 20, 2005 06:59 PM
