ticking noise
 

okay so i noticed that everytime my car sits for a while and i started it up and start driving slowly my back wheel has a "ticking" noise
what my mechanic told me over the phone was that the break pad sits wierd and once i start driving for a couple of minutes it goes away, he said its nothing to worry about.. but i still want to get a second opinion

i thought it was rotors or caliper since i changed the break pads not to long ago

please let me know what u guys think about this

the pads sit close to the rotor. after a bit of driving they get knocked back a bit and the sound goes away. its normal. if you want to fix it [though its not a big deal really], take brakes apart and clean or replace the metal brackets where pad sits on.

Check the caliper out man, that's the same ish that was happening to me last week before I found out my caliper was ceased.

If it is, and your bro is gonna replace it, lemme know how much your paying, I can get the parts for cheap if he's down to install em, but I want my other one done too.

i think i will buy new calipers anyway so i can paint them or do some of them come already painted?

take the calipers off and check them out, once they are off you can move the piston in and out and see if it is any good.

where can i get already painted calipers?

um, just get a 5 bolt conversion and get spoons :)

but seriously, caliper (at least new ones) can run hundreds of dollars if theres nothing wrong with the ones you have, then i wouldn't worry. my calipers ceased a while back and there was no ticking... just one day they worked, and the next they made a horrid grinding noise.

Sorry, but IMO a seized caliper is not nothing to worry about. When the caliper seizes you either wont have brakes because its stuck closed(meaning it wont compress your pads) or its stuck open in which case you will wear your brakes down 5 times faster than need be. You can warp your rotors and bust brake lines from back pressure. Also, no offense to your Mechanic but brake pads should not "sit weird" they should be properly places in the brackets. I would take Scrid3r's advice and remove the pads and fitting kit, clean it up (remove any rust build up) and re-lube them with anti-seize.
The last thing you want its hundreds more in damage to your braking system. If you need calipers let me know. I can get you my dealer pricing on a set of afterarket ones that are good. They shouldnt cost you more than 100 each and thats pushing it.

I saw your post and wanted to warn you, if your caliper is ceased, you can ruin your entire braking system very quickly and very easily.

I would get it checked a.s.a.p., before you find yourself in a situation with no brakes. *Knocks On Wood.*

As for painting calipers, consider it the cheap way out of buying nice, professionally painted looking calipers. Either way, if your rotors are rusted/dirty, your calipers will get covered anyway.

If your gonna buy some, spoons are nice - but expensive.

but on the other hand i dont want to be on the highway with no brakes

I would say spend the 45 minutes taking the pads off and checking the caliper for free movement. It doesn't take long and it's not hard. If everything slides nicely, you spent likely under an hour being sure. And if everything is messed up, at least you found out before you wrecked other components... or the entire car sliding into a guard rail. Just sayin'.

i took my car to the mechanic so he can take a look at it
he said my rotors are rusted on top but not the bottom thats why it makes a ticking noise when it spins.. he said i dont have to change it yet..
so i think the problem is not with the caliper anymore but the rotors not being evenly round a bit.. doesnt look like anything major..
i mite still take your advice and see if caliper is moving freely but i dont think that is the case anymore

Well glad to hear its not that sever but im also glad you checked it out. Its always better to be safe than sorry right? when it come to your brakes you should be 10 times more careful than any other component. your life means more than a few extra minutes just being sure!!

You could just jack up the car to get the tire thats making the noise off the ground, and just rotate the wheel and see where it's rubbing exactly and attempt a fix if it's just an annoying sound and not something you need to worry about. Just my thoughts.

eventually i will have to buy rotors and calipers but for the time being i think i am okay
i blast my speaakers so i dont have to hear it and turn it down occasionally to make sure everything is okay with my tires.. lol
