Thinking of buying new clutch kit- any advice?
Hey, I think I need a new clutch kit. I have a stock 97 LS with no plans to mod it.

What do you guys think about the above clutch? My mechanic recommended OEM but I've seen many OEM on ebay :\ Any other `decent` clutch kits you guys can recommend? Also, is it required to change the flywheel? Thanks for your replies guys.:auto: |
These clutch kits are fine if you want the car stock and have no plans to modify it. Make sure the clutch is alignged properly on the install and the flywheel may need maching if there are any scores or heat fade on the surface wich meshes with your friction disc. You dont change the flywhell unless it has been machined more then once and is uderspec or has a runout issue (warpage). These are oem replacement kits and if you mean from honda? Good luck i hope you have an arm and a leg to pay them with.

Thanks for the quick reply. One's told me exedy's are a lil stiff so I may consider the other one. Ya, i know it's a hefty expense- lowest quote I got for clutch replacement is $275 on labour. So $400 total for this ---- :\ Just getting the car winter-ready. |
Exedy's Stage 1 organic material clutch is equivalent to OEM.
Exedy also manufactures the OEM friction discs for Honda (not sure which models). I would highly recommend the Exedy Stage 1 kit; high quality, and durable... so long as you keep your setup stock. Lastly, i'd HIGHLY recommend either resurfacing your flywheel, or replacing it. If you do not, you *can* suffer from annoyances like clutch chatter, scoring, or rapid wear on your friction disc. |
get a xtd stage 1 clutch kit. i've had one on my integra with 30000+ driving and now have a stage 3 one on my civic and i beat the hell out of it with over 15k driving and no problem whatsoever.

Based on what ac_gsr said, i hope the flywheel hasn't been previously worked on and may stick with the original and have it resurfaced. Reza- how's the pedal on that - i dont like the clutches very stiff. |
