Temperature is low
5 Attachment(s)
hi all
my integra has been running fine but since it started to get cold out the temp gauge is almost always on cold even when driving at high speeds on the high way. the only way the gauge reads it is warm is if i let the car idle for a good 5 mins after driving around for a bit. once it reads warm as soon as i hit the road the meter starts to dip and usually within a minute or 2 it is back to freezing cold unless i idle for a good few mins. i think it has something to do with my thermostat or maybe my cold air intake. i have a simple ractive cone for the intake and no access to the stock box air filter thing. maybe the thermostat is in a bad position like its cooling off and catching cold air as i drive where is the stat supposed to be located exactly does anyone else experience this? im posting pics to clarify better u can see from start up to warm up to driving again |
Is it on like that at all times? even after, lets say 20 minutes of driving?
|
if i am driving yes but if i am in trafic like atop and go it will only warm up when im stopped or driving in traffic but on the highway or constantly doing 120 it will not warm up untill i get off the hi way and idle and i gotta idle for like 2 mins as u see in the last pic im doing 120 and it says its cold but i already drove there for like an hour and prolly did close to 100 k that morning b4 taking the pics
i drive my teg 200 k a day (weekdays) sometimes more ive been having this problem every winter its not really a problem car runs fine but its weird i figure better cold than hot |
Sounds like your thermomiter is broken.
|
hahahahaha omg you guys are dumb no offense at all.
You thermoSTAT is busted. just grab one from partsource or somewhere, get on thats like 180 degrees or 170 those are both like stock and replace it. it on the lower rad hose right against the block. that will fix everything. |
I hope your not calling my dumb. I was correct. Indicate who you are calling dumb please.
|
you said thermomiter lol. and yea i ment all of you, but i dont mean any offense at all, just a casual " haha your dumb".
|
Dont call people dumb just because they dont know too much about cars. Simply induldge them in what you know to help then grasp a common sence on cars. Not all of us are mechanics. Im im school for law, if I ask you somthing about the act 4.6 bar in the 1980s, will you know?
Were all on this forum to learn things and communicate. Not put peoples self-esteem down by calling them dumb. |
actually i would know lol my whole family is lawyers. you know of pallett-valo the law firm?
But like i said, im not meaning any offense. if you want to take it offensivly then fine, but im just saying it in a happy mood. |
All he's trying to say, is that it's hard not to be taken offensively when it's an attack on intelligence. Especially when it's over the net, it's all too easy to take anything the wrong way.
It's Christmas guys, lets not do this. |
i know that. but what can i do? i said i dont mean it that way so thats it. if i wanted to be an ass i would. i porposely start the first post by saying "no offense". o well, it is christmas so who cares.
just annoying when people post and dont know. if you admit you dontr really know, dont feed someone the wrong info. pretty simple. |
I agree with XNXIXTXRXOX. i sort of stopped responding to some threads because some questions are just....silly and people who respond are even more silly. haha
OP-you will need a new thermostat. all others, if you do not know, dont guess hoping that you get it right. you will cost the OP money. Obviously by saying "thermomiter" you do not come across too bright. no offence, but if you do not know what is going on then stfu. Also Anthony, if you wanna talk about law, start a TorontoLawClub, this is about cars so if you do not know all that much and trying to learn, dont suggest anything and stick with lurking. |
i feel like i started something terrible i shouldnt post about my problems i guess
didnt know much about the thermostat or where it was after reading my haynes earlier i see its easy to change and shouldnt be difficult. gives me a chance to maybe change the rad hoses i hope u all r right and it is the thermostat or ill be calling all u dumbasses lol thanks to everyone for their input |

mad random |
It might not be the thermostat. You cant listen to people on here. Nobody is that good at disgnosing a problem just from you describing it. Check with a mechanic to be safe.
|
i hope u all r right and it is the thermostat or ill be calling all u dumbasses lol In any case, hope you find the problem, and merry christmas to everyone reading this |
well i had the same problem and it was the thermostat. its staying open. when your car is sitting, there is no air flow over the rad or motor, allowing it to heat up. with the thermostat stuck open, when you drive, the motor gets cooled too much when a good working one would close and allow running temp to remain steady. its a very simple thing. and theres no thermometer in a car, thats for when your sick. theres a temperature sensor lol, which either works, or doesnt. it wouldnt cause temperature fluctuation. it just wouldnt read the temp at all.
and lol he did check with a mechanic... me. notice he said it only happened when it got cold. ALWAYS a thermostat when that situation occurs. typical of our cars with mechanic thermostats that have been in there for like 15 plus years lol. |
does driving with a faulty thermostat like im currenty doing cause harm to the motor or is it one of those no biggie things???

thats my dads (drew pallett) and (past away) grandpas law firm when he paired up with sid valo my dads really good friend back like 45 years ago. my family name is pallett. hence pallett-valo. you probably know Ana Esbizeto too.
i might put in a good word lol. maybe not. |
just google "john pallett" if your curious and check wiki. thats my grandpa.
|
I heard they are rellllllly big in mississauga and brampton. They know what they are doing when it comes to contract drafting.
|
you know what guys i think i ran into to the same problem
and this started ever i got my oil change everytime my car is indle i see it warming up but if i take it on a highway it keeps telling me its low temperature just like the other guy said.. so i guess imma have to change the thermostat too :( but i took at the pictures of this guy that started this thread and mine is a lil different because his goes below the cold line, mine stays right on it but also keep in mind its winter and i have heat in the car most of the time.. and i know heat makes your engine cool down a bit oh ya and i also noticed it starting once the temperature outside got colder in the summer it was working fine feedback needed please.. |
Just replace your coolent temp switch first, they are not that much.
|
I actually have a somewhat similar problem with my car, but it's not as bad - the temperature stays below what you'd expect when the car's running, just under the 1/3 mark. Especially when cruising in 5th

and where is the best place to get one |
is it the coolant temperature sensor or the coolant temperature sender
maybe i should buy both also i dunno if i should order these parts for the b18 or the b20 im pretty sure they r interchangeable anyways im gonna try the thermostat first after reading XNXIXTXRXOX's response he makes a good point that if it was the sensor it wouldnt read temp at all hopefully its nice out 2moro and i get it done ill post if i am successful |
OP, do you get hot air? If not then its the thermostat.
|
who is OP?
and i get hot air in the car so it must be the sensor than |
op is original poster. which is you
|
no actually i have the same problem as the OP
|
i think my car is developing the same problem
it is taking long to 'warm up'. even after a good 15-20 mins of driving, the needle is only at 1/4 is the 'thermostat' an easy DIY? |
They show hose replacment too. Ignore that part if it doesnt concern you
G3 Thermostat Replacement - Team Integra You want to start at page 8 |
i checked my coolant level and its filled up to the top
so its either the thermostat or the sensor i still think its the sensor more than the thermostat |
if it struggles to heat up it could be either thermostat or you could just use a coolant flush.
thermostat is a cheap and quick fix. you will drain out a lot of coolant so might aswell open the rad and get all of it out and replace with fresh one. if thermostat is stuck open, you will NOT get hot air in the car. may get warm'ish but will not be hot. if anybody wants their thermostat replaced, you can pm me, ill do it for you for some beer lol. |
i still think its the sensor more than the thermostat
|
okay just wanted to give you pros are update
i was just driving my car and this time i didnt put on the heat i noticed when i drove around 40-50 km/hour my temperature was slowly increasing once my engine got warm as soon as i start driving constantly around 60 km/h or more it started going down to low again... i put on the heat and it was pretty warm on the first option so do you guys agree that its not the thermostat.. very likely its just the sensor or do you guys think i should change the thermostat anyway im not a technical car guy so i dont know what to do |
k..... this is lame. the sensor just detects heat. has nothing to do with it the engine heating up or cooling down, unless its the summer and the fan kicks in. its a SENSOR ie a device which SENSES. the problem is your thermostat. just put a new one in and you'll be fine.
a thermostat controls the flow of coolant. your water pump is always moving coolant throughout the motor. when the thermostat is closed, it stops the flow of coolant and allows the engine to retain and build up heat. if it stays open, the cold coolant at start up will continually be in flow and constantly cooled by the rad, making it very difficult to build heat. the reaso it builds a lil heat going slow, is because there is less flow over the rad OBV. same as when you just sit and idle. all in all its your thermostat. just replace it. its the easiest thing you can do. and cheapest. |
