Taking Lens Off JDM Headlights

Hey

I have tried using a heat gun and slowly opening the lens with a flat head screw driver. This doesnt seem to working very well at all it isn't getting me anywhere.

id like to know if this is the only way and it just takes a LONG time, or is there a better easier way?

JDM_gsR 03-05-2007 05:44 PM

I've used this method before. It wasn't bad. You need two people though.

Buff4Prez Yo 03-05-2007 05:59 PM

put it in the oven. it'll heat more evenly

SIC1 03-05-2007 06:20 PM

Use an oven. are you doing a retrofit on a JDM Gen2 (Pre-1993) or JDM Gen 3 (95-00) integra headlights?

If you are doing any kind of HID retrofitting then head over to www.HIDplanet.com they have everything you need to know about HID retrofitting via their forums.

i have a similar question.. i have jdm dc2 headlights and want to open up the lens, if anyone has ever done this any tips?

JDM_gsR 03-05-2007 07:12 PM

They don't fit in the oven.

Gs-R-edline 03-05-2007 07:59 PM

^You have a shitty oven........ :D

i have dc2 and i am just taking them off because i need to clean the inside of the lens..if i put it in the oven what temperature and for how long so i do not ruin any part of the light

JDM_gsR 03-06-2007 01:06 PM

200 degrees for 10-13 min. That's what the civic guys put it in for. Any longer your lense will burn out (turn yellowish). But like I said, JDM DC2 headlight wont fit in most ovens. Try yours out...never know

JDMHONDA 03-06-2007 02:05 PM

200 degrees on what setting (bake or w.e else there is) and is that 200 degrees for 10-13 minutes for one headlight at a time or both together??

actually i tried and they wont fit it my oven lol nvm thanks anyways...u said before you did it with a heat gun..is there any pointers u have with doing it that way?

phoms 03-06-2007 06:10 PM

hey jdmhonda im doing the same thing and ive been reading around, maybe try using some silicone disolvent? that might help the process if your doing it with a heatgun but try to find some that doesnt harm the housing..

JDM_gsR 03-07-2007 11:41 AM

One person to hold it, one person to use the heat gun. Both pull it apart slowly frequently while still using heat gun.

JDMHONDA 03-07-2007 03:29 PM

sounds good thanks for the help everyone :)

phoms 03-07-2007 06:53 PM

does anyone else have any ideas? jdmhonda did you get it off yet? if you did could you give me any more tips?

Good timing with this tread, I was hoping to do this sometime this month...

Anyone care to comment on what products / methods they used to clean this inside and out. Also, what did you guys use to seal it back up so they don'y get hazzy again?

i heard paint thinner works good to clean the lens but dont quote me im not 100% positive..and im not sure which silicon to use to reseal but id make sure u use a good amount so u dont get any leaks cuz that process of getting open would suck having to do it again lol

i havent taken mine off yet my friend did his civic headlights so he said he is gonna help me but he did it the same way jdm gsr is saying to do it

JDM_gsR 03-08-2007 10:13 AM

Use plain old windex with paper towels. Not sure which silicone I used to seal it.

JDM_gsR 03-08-2007 10:17 AM

The headlight come apart in 3 pieces. Lense, black housing and the rear. Be careful cause the plastic might be soft.

GSR_gino 03-08-2007 06:40 PM

if they dont fit in your oven go to the nearest PIZZZA PIZZA they'll fit in their oven and the lens will separate in no time. 967 11 11 is the number btw.

-Azarro- 03-08-2007 07:41 PM

^^ i wish they would do it...id take it there in one second

phoms 03-08-2007 10:00 PM

oh ---- i never thought about that.. my cousins owns a pizza pizza.. lol, or i could try the oven at my gfs restaurant.. but that sh*t is way too hot

Back or black piece? Black piece is detatched. Lense, housing, then back piece w/ chrome.

so there is NOOO possible way at all that the back piece and the chrome can come apart??

phoms 03-09-2007 03:38 PM

i think he means the chrome part thats around the headlight.. like the reflective part.. you dont really want to mess around with the reflective stuff. why do you wanna take that off?
