check distributor

weiR 09-08-2006 08:48 PM

^^^ open the distributor and make sure the rotor is fastened properly. i've had spark before but in the wrong sequence due to a loose rotor.

are you using the proper main relay?

...or the spark plugs in the wrong order.

make sure your starter is grounded properly

make sure the grounds are torqued down. Are you sure you got the proper firing order? Did you take the dizzy off? Play with the timing.. did you do the wp/tb before putting it in?

I've done 2 swaps in my car.. both times it didn't start up due to timing issues. 60% of the swaps I perform they don't start because either I messed the firing order or the timing is waaaay off. Also.. are you sure the motor was in good running shape?

i'm having a similar issue, motor cranks, starter is good but i get no spark.

what can i check?

FuzzyLS BRO 09-10-2006 06:33 PM

^trace it back through the ignition, start with plugs, then wires, then distributer cap, then rotor, if all else fails, then it could probably be the igniter in the distributer that has gone bad. if that has happend, it's expensive for just that one part, a cheaper alternative is to get a whole new re-built distributer.

i'll check it out fuzz.. thx for the input

Fuel Pump Priming?
Distributor on the right way?
Timing Set correctly?
Injectors firing?
Spark Plug wires on the distributor correctly?

ECU was the problem. plugged in stock ECU and motor fired up.... plugged in chipped ECU and didn't start... getting new ECU :w00t:

:yeah:

coolio.. motor started up fine.. it turned out to be the wiring harness instead of ecu.. i received an OBD2b harness instead of an OBD2a harness. all is good with the exception of the clutch.. but i made a new thread instead of jacking this one further. lol..
