Default Suspension Rattle

Hey guys, so I had my skunk2 coilover sleeves installed 2 weeks ago and after some adjusting (lowering) my rear passenger spring makes a rattling noise mainly when I make a left turn or when pressure is put on it(i.e added weight of more passengers). The noise is as if the spring is moving around and isnt sitting right. I checked the sleeve to see if its loose and its very tight. Could the shock blow that quickly(if so why would it make a rattling noise)? The noise came the second day I had the coils installed but after I lowered the car a bit more. What can I do to stop thais noise? its so annoying!! lol

Btw, the shocks are stock ITR's, and the install was done by Dave at Addicted Performance so it was done RIGHT.

thanks in advance,

Mike.

hmm well mine rattled a bit after i put them on because i had the car up in the air and let it down fast, not letting the spring settle into place properly, it could be that its just out of place and nothing a quick left up wouldnt fix, hope that helps you

Thanks, I've tried that a few times now. The rubber piece on the top is also in tact and looks to be doing its job. Should I try and put foam strips or something around the top of the spring? or is that somehow unsafe?

you could try that? not sure if something may have come loos, dont wanna say anything but it happens, make sure everything is good and secure, or it could just be the new spring adjusting to the loads

That's what you get for installing shitty sleeves instead of proper coilovers.

Half-*** modding ftl.

^thanks, wasnt looking for your useless advice, if you cant help fix my problem then I dont want to hear it. plus this car is becoming my winter beater when I get my e30 m3 in a couple of months, so mind your own business. Besides, since when does Skunk2 make bad products?

1DA2NV, thanks for your help bro. if anyone else has an idea please let me know.

Thanks,

Mike.

Coilover sleeves are a bad setup regardless of who makes them. Fixing your problem is easy, build a proper setup or don't mod at all. Why are you lowering a car that is going to be a winter car anyway?

cus I have nothing to have fun with this summer. The car was fine until I adjusted the height, so something must have changed since...

so all in all, I lowered it with sleeves so i can adjust the height for winter, but still have something to mess with in the summer because my m3 will be weekend/track car, so this is still a daily driver.

well check if oil leaked out of the shock if so then its blown and the wheel will barely make any contact with the road possibly sound like rattling.

this happened to my em2 when i installed full coilovers and they were still settling, the spring is probably just binding on the top hat or the perch or something just give it some time hopefully it will go away soon. Is is rubber or plastic on the top perch?

^ yea i thought maybe they're still settling. The top perch is rubber.

Slickkhan, I dont think the shock is gone, I have none of what you described.

Thanks for the input, keep it coming!

ok so the top is rubber then it has to be the bottom where it meets the screws, it could be that is not sitting proper on the top making it rattle on the botom, put it up again and make sure you let it down real slowif you can use a friend to help guide it so it sits well on the bottom perch

Tried that^, still nothing . Everything seems to be sitting properly. I even tried putting foam ALL over the place lol, pretty much everywhere where metal was in contact with more metal. its so messed, guess i need to have Dave check it out, im starting think that maybe its not the suspension making the noise? i donno, im just really annoyed. tahnks for everyones advice!

you know just to be safe take it back to him, it wvery well could be something else that has rattled loose due to the stiffer susp setup, Dave is a great guy and i love him very much

^yea thats true. What about shock mounts?! How do I know if those have failed? My other guess would be my exhaust rattling since that would most likely explain the noise when there's more weight in the car.
