Sound deadening/rattle removal.

So my buddy has a probe and its as quite as can be inside. no rattles, no vibrations nothing. and it has a sub and its always crisp. he has ksport coilovers so its not like his suspension is soft. anyways, i asked him what he did and he literally stuffed every part of his car with home insulation, like the pink fluffy stuff. he was saying how it weighs nothing and worked really good. im not into the whole dynamat thing for 2 bills, kinda seems like a lot. anyone done something like this and had good results?

That is the first I heard of that. I actually removed all the material out of my trunk this summer.

There is no way the home insulation will stop rattling, because it's not disigned for that, the only thing that will do that is brown bread or dynamat. The only thing that insulation will, is make the car warmer from the cold.

ive never heard of that before... isn't that stuff extremely messy? ... not only that its not for sound deadening its for insulation and its extremely flammable and the fact most of it is fibre glass which is bad for you and if it gets wet it rots

it amazing what people will do to just to be cheap

anyways... if your looking for sound deadening but dont want to spend the money on dynamat look for brown bread. Its idenical to dynamat.... and its a hell of a lot cheaper

hmm lol didnt think bout the rotting thing.

my buddys car is so quiet, and it wasnt before he did the insulation thing.... weird. i just was curious if anyone had done something like this. good to know lol, ill take a look at the other sound deadening products.

he prolly had loose screws ad after putting the installation he tightened them up properly lol

i find alot of the times vibrations come from loose tail ights stuff like that not on the integras but american cars more

I have some rattle and vibrations here and there cuse of the subs, I don't mind it too much but I wouldn't mind quieting it down. I wouldn't put home insulation in it though. If there is a leak somewhere and that gets wet you'll get some problems and cleaning it up would be a mess.

Let us know what you do with it if anyone else wants to soundproof their tegs.

I already said in my post, the only stuff you use in vehicle for soundproofing/stopping rattling, is brown bread or dynamat.

I have an annoying rattle noise in my trunk. been a year, dont know what it is.

Neon_Dave 01-11-2010 12:34 AM

^ I'd check the panels on the inside of the trunk hatch. Also, double check that nothing is loose under the fiberboard, like nuts or something in and around the spare tire area.

I think what makes a big difference is not allowing interior parts and panels to physically move, the simplest example being placing a soft material behind the license plate to stop vibration. The tighter things fit, the less they should rattle. If they don't fit tightly, help em :D

I am not worried about it. its my 2001 integra. I havnt driven it since the snow fell.. my 1990 is my main priority

Install Dynamat behind every trunk panel there is, and all on the trunk floor as well.

so this is my plan. im rockerguarding my hole trunk (like going down to the metal) and doing a nice think layer of that, and same with my wheel wells on the inside to help with road noise. then im buying some closed celled foam and im going to cover the majority of my trunk. when the spring comes, im power washing the underside of my car and im going to undercoat it again, cus most of mine is deterierating especially in the wheel wells. then im going to do my behind my door panels too. im not going to go crazy, but enough that its not gonna be as bad as it is right now. i just cant justify buying dynamat when i could go spend the money on my suspenion setup.

i have that white fluffy ---- thats in stuff animals and my hatch doesnt rattle what so ever, but i only have my hatch and the speaker towers packed with that. i have a couple loonies and toonies in my door handle that rattles like crazy, theres nowhere to put them :(
