Probably a rust hole in the tank. Fill it up to the top and see if you get a leak....

There's a couple of places to check
-the whole exhaust system:header, cat, mid-pipe for holes, rust etc
-gas cap
-the filler neck, it's the tube the runs from the spout(where you fill gas) to the tank
-around your intake manifold, closer to the injectors

pull out the back seat to expose the fuel sending unit and pull of the cover to check your lines. if they're ok, check the tank. look for clean bare metal spots, not just on the bottom but along the sides too. if you see any it could mean the there's a leak near the top and the gas leaking out is cleaning all the dirt and stuff that's caked on (as was in my case). if you need a tank i have one from my parts car. fuel sending unit

i got a brand new tank put in at some shop for about 400 all in

this never really fixed my gas leak even though my old tank had holes in it

it turned out its leaking from around the furl sending unit. the shop tried their best to put the gasket in place and it still leaked they put some silicone around it it only lasted a few months

ive bought brand new gasket and metal ring has it installed and it still onli lasted a few months.

anything past 15 dollars in my tank and it reaks like gas i dunno what to do anymore im thinking of buying that hi temp red silicone stuff and sealing it again

it drives me insane its a 90 integra im doing my best to restore it (b20b)

if its a gas leak will it drip on the floor? or is there some other way that the gas gets out

emang 10-03-2009 12:41 PM

the gas will drip if i fill say 25 sometimes even 20 gas and i have to run the car

the smell is stronger inside the car then outside

i think the fuel sending unit fills up somehow or pumps while the cars running and its not sealed right so the gas just flows out from the top of the tank

10 dollars gas and it doesnt smell hard i think its not enough gas to reach the top

if it was the fuel filler neck thats leaking i think it would only smell when close to full it smells as soon as my meter passes half tho

i will get this check soon and post what will fix it

i wanna attemt it myself but dont wanna mess nothing up i think the sending unit is old corroded and leaves a gap in the tank

dimasbenz 10-03-2009 12:45 PM

but does it drip outside on the floor
or inside the car?
sorry man i am a noob i just want to understand how this works

on a sidenote.. i filled up like a week ago and once i filled up i also smelled gas in my car but it went away in minutes.. so not really sure if it was a leak or just something else
