Skunk2 or DC headers?

i recently started a build with a b20 and was gunna go for skunk2 headers but my friend had some mint DC headers so i decided on going with that...if anyone has some input into this i would appriciate it

I have crome finish DC headers and the chrome lasted about 1 week of driving....ha
they had great hp gains and work great still a couple years later...
I don;t knwo much about the skunks...

Spike 04-29-2009 10:30 PM

i have had DC on both my last B18's

sns12 04-29-2009 10:59 PM

yeahh mine was ceramic and their pretty intense hard to find too, had sum pretty decent gains as well but i still gotta tune it i did some research on skunk2 headers as well and those r properrr but i guess the DC headers are doin it for me righ now spend the big money else where:rolleyes:

skunk2 makes a amazing header some guy on honda tech dynoed the skunk2 vs a replica tri-y and the S2 made a decent amount more of power. i couldnt find the graphs but here are some pics and comments

thats bcuz there aren't any. its all s2 propoganda. that header is not worth its $800+ price tag.

op- vibrant j spec 4-2-1, sp 4-2-1 or vteckidd rmf rep. pick the one that fits ur budget and u'll have a good unit

i swear that some guy on HT tested the s2 vs other tri-y

i not hating the replica tri-y cause its what I m using in my build hahah

the stepped primaries are so pretty. IMHO the skunk2's would yield better gains then the DC's.

$800?!?!?!?

For that much i'd spend a little more and get a good header (real hytech, SMSP, RMF, DTR, etc etc), or spend less and get a good header like the vibrant j-spec.

The JDM DC 4-1 is decent, but its still a DC product, which i'll never use again on my car.

sns12 05-01-2009 12:28 PM

oh freel? what was your experience with DC?

zman 05-01-2009 03:20 PM

my experiences with DC is that they're garbage!!!

I had a ceramic DC 4-1 when I first did my swap and it rotted out in no time. It didn't leak, but it was the ugliest header i've seen in a while.

I'm consistantly seeing less than desireable results on cars with DC headers.

FRANKIE d'ROSARIO 05-02-2009 08:25 AM

honestly dc gives good power gains. if you don't want to see the them tarnish and rott. you should thermal wrap them makes a big difference both in cooling looks and minor hp gain with the thermal wrap.

bestlap 05-03-2009 10:05 PM

I had Skunk2 header make 4 more whp and 3 more tq then my old DC

nate10 05-04-2009 07:34 PM

I've heard DC headers have a tendency to crack.

JDM_gsR 10-29-2009 12:41 PM

I've had DC ceramic header on my car for over 10 years and they are still in mint condition...not sure about the gains

D.T.P 10-29-2009 12:54 PM

BUMP somebody buy my stock b18a1 manifold! only want 400$ oem>aftermarket!!!
hahaha
this will follow some bumps later on lol

One has to read test comparisons to see which header actually has the best gains.

DC has always stood on top when it comes to header performance. I have seen unbiased tests and they rank right up there.

Discoloration, chrome pealing what does one actually expect? It's the headder!! the hottest spot on the car. Wrap it with header wrap as mentioned. Plus you get the heat away from the head thus adding more hp.

jasonjai 11-21-2009 02:50 AM

instead of header wrap, how about some high temp clear ceramic paint?

header wrap might soak up moisture, and smell...

Header wrap has a purpose. It's material is designed to accept mositure without issues. When installing the wrap it has to be saoked first. Then wrapped and secured.

Once in and car is running this stuff is hot. Soaking up water? How? It's under the hood. While driving you will get some water spray from underneath but it will vapourize shortly thereafter.

IMHO and hand spraye dpaint will come off over time and will not have the benefits of a wrap material or professional ceramic coating.

I just bought a Greddy stainless header. It will be wrapped for sure.

I also just purchased a stainless header for my Subaru legacy. Bonus its already wrapped. (didn't fit correctly on last application.).
