Rust repair help
Hey guys I'm a newbie at this so I'm gonna ask I bought a 96 Gsr it's everything I've wanted in an integra but it's rusty. In 2 places one is in the trunk right where the jack sits and the other is the driver side rocker panel I'll take pics and show u guys any help is appreciated thanks

Re: Rust repair help
I know the trunk rust is known for integras same as the rocker panels. Usually the trunk floor people get it reweleded with whole new metal. As for the rocker panel depends how bad it is bit could get fixed up. Body work does get pricey thou just keep that in mind.

Re: Rust repair help
I don't see it costing $2500 to fix just those things...but I bet you can get that fixed plus a new paint job for around that price to about 3000$

Re: Rust repair help
Dam that's eaten right up man...I dunno that's gonna be a lot of work...
|
Re: Rust repair help
Ya that's what I thought not really worth it right? It's only the driver side like that
|
Re: Rust repair help
I wouldn't say it would be worth it...

Re: Rust repair help
Those areas dont need to be pretty. Get it cut out and pay a guy at a welding class to do it. My buddy way back used to do stuff like that for peanuts just so he could practice.
|
Re: Rust repair help
^^^^ agreed. some guys in school just want to practise with that ----. they would do it for sooo little.
also you can try doing it yourself since it wont be seen anyways. |
Re: Rust repair help
Ya Marlo is right...welding is not that difficult, it's not easy by any means either. But if you got a sturdy hand it can be done. It wont look good but practice on two pieces of metal before.
Also I think to rent a welder it won't cost you that much either you can get some little ones that are 110W and do the work perfectly. |
Re: Rust repair help
Ya alright I'll consider that I've never welded before so I could learn it I might just part the whole car out it's getting close to winter and I don't have the space to do it thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it :)

Re: Rust repair help
Do NOT try and weld it yourself. Not to be a d!ck but you WILL fail. Working with such thin metal, it warps very easy. You end up covering everything with bondo and it will all chip away. Welding is hard, infact, its very hard. I've welded quite a bit in past several years, and i would not, in any way take on such job. You will need to bend/shape and cut to exact size which will not be easy, on top of it all, rocker is a structural support and in case of an accident, it will not act as it should. Either get it done professionally, or better yet, if you feel like you could achieve more mechanically, pull the engine and transmission out, part out the car, scrap the shell and buy an integra or a civic with a blow engine or something. Will cost you less for the shell than to fix this. I'm sure for 1500$ you could find a decent looking shell that doesn't have such rot, then swap the GSR in and you are set. It would be a lot easier and cheaper.

Re: Rust repair help
Ya ur right D.T.P I really don't wanna attempt it I know I can't do it and I was gonna part it out anyways it just sucks that an original Gsr has to be scraped it's getting harder to find them now but o well lol anyways guys thanks for the advice if u need parts let me know :p
|
Re: Rust repair help
Ya if you scrap the shell get your self a clean RS shell. It will be cheaper on insurance as well. Which is gonna be a bonus.

Re: Rust repair help
Ya I wanted a sunroof but most cars with them are rites out cause of the sunroof drainage tubes I think that's how this one got rotted out bit ya I'm gonna grab an rs after this one goes

Re: Rust repair help
Just keep the seats, engine and transmkssion. Rest is useless. Or good for spare parts.
