Running 6 channels on 4 channel deck?

Soo I want to add 2 more 6x9's or 2 more 6 1/2"er's to my teg. System setup is as follows.

Sony head unit, 4 channel, 54 watts per channel. I have four 6 1/2" speakers running on this. also 2 12" subs, running at 550 rms each, power by my amp.

Now, the question is.... Im not going to run 4 speakers off 2 channels... no point, the power will be split between the two negating the point of adding 2 more speakers. Is there a way to establish 54 watts while having 6 channels? Like running at 2 ohms instead of 8?

This is not my area of expertise as your can see, so any audiophiles out there that can help? Thanks a lot guys.

Don't quite understand what setup your trying to establish. What kind of amp is pushing your subs? your best bet if you are adding two additional speakers is to break everything into your component skrs, mids (addit), lows. Like run your front two directly off your headunit. get a 4ch amp to run your other 4 speakers and also u already got ur sub+amp which im assuming is a 2ch, 2ohms.

and even with 6 speakers a decent amp 40x4, 50x4 @ 4ohms will handle it, so dont bother running or (overloading) your HU. overload ur amp.

Your right if you run another two speakers from your deck your gonna defeat the purpose because the watts will just devise between the for speakers connected on the same channel so pretty much If your gonna go that route you have to amplify the interior speakers with a 6 channel amp but tight now my setup is 4 6 1/2 to the stock deck with tweeters Hooke up to the front speakers so basically I have what you want but you want a bigger speaker which I don't realy know why cuz I'm running 2 12s aswell 500rms each with a 900rms amp so I use themfor the lows and the interior speakers for the mids and highs and if I turn it up I pop my ear drums soo if you want to make you system louder it's all about an over all sound range loud highs mids and low so if you dot have tweeters that would help and you could do what I did and run them from the front speakers the mids fromt the 4 interiors should be good enough and depending on what amp your you using will effect the lows meaning you need an amp to match you rms and peak rating because if you are under powering or overpowering the subs they'll sound like crap so pretty much you need to find a balance and tune with your deck IMO Sony decks don't provide a good platform to have a good system I just don't like the eq settings

I don't know if any of this helps or makes sense lol but hopefully it works out

hmm. i have an amp for my speakers, its just not hooked up... i like the idea of running the fronts on the head unit then doing a 4 channel rear setup with my amp. seems logical and it would definitely retain the power level i want, without losing any due to the extra 2 speakers.

And my system is very loud, and i tuned my amp specifically for my car and setup. the levels on my head unit are all set to how i like them as well. my subs take care of the lows and i solely rely on my other speakers for the mids and highs. im just deaf (not really) and want it louder.

get a 4 channel amp, dont run aftermarket speakers off your head unit, also do you have tweeters in ur door panel?
