riddle/problem
 

riddle me this, riddle me that, what grinds n clunks when you turn left but not right, and when you brake?

A) drive shaft connection to the abs
B) Tie Rod Ends
C) Upper Or Lower Ball Joints
D) Other

i just did some research and apparently its the drive shaft..but wtf its brand new! maybe i got a crappy one?

drivershaft is your problem

but it surely is a "brand new" rebuilt unit. Make sure you get one with a lifetime warranty (as i remeber it, they were FENCO?)

It could be your hub/bearing as well. I remember Glenn's used to sound like metal in a blender and it wasn't the driveshaft.

WOW, that must've sounded pretty....I hate the sound of metal scraping.

Could also be the bearing, though you'd tend to hear it going straight then more pronounced when you turn.

yea you dont hear it when in motion, only when braking and turning left. And yes its a rebuilt with lifetime warentee..but i got it thru a mechanic i vow never to go back to since everything i got off him broke

Somoene told me it could also be the bearing in the drive shafts came loose. n need to be put back into place.hmm

alright..I replaced the tie rod ends..n fucked up my alignment in the process..I also replaced the drive shafts..and the noise is still here! whats left guys!? again clunking/grinding/ w.e u wana call it. turning left, braking, n hitting bumps..Im out of ideas and 300$ so im pretty pissed at the moment..help woudl be great!

ball joints? at least check em.. sway bar links? , just get rid of your suspension and go 5 bolt ;)

hello again. the sound you are hearing is your constant velocity joint. the reason why you only hear it when you brake (possibly even when in 1st gear) is because of the torque being transfered from your transaxle to your wheels. the reason why you hear it when you turn left is because it is only a defective left CV joint. (front wheel drive cars dont have drive shafts, have have CV shafts)

a way to confirm it is in fact your CV joint? (in an empty lot of course!) Pop that baby in reverse and shove your wheel all the way to the left. you hear a constant *click *click *click? Bingo!!!

lol i changed bearings, ball joints, CV shafts, Tie Rod ends..its still here! we think it might be the strut mount.

a loose strut mount will not be heard when you turn, especially not only when you brake. you would hear it consistantly because the road isnt perfectly flat. take it to a tech, maybe he can figure it out before you spend even more money.

^CV shafts are also called half shafts, there's a 1000 names for them. but if you changed everything there, then the next step could be your braking system, check out your pads, are they cracked? clips holding them in place properly? shim come off the back of the pad? since you've replaced most of the components allready, then the next logical guess would be the wheel bearing.

i've already replaced the wheel bearings. And i checked out the pads n rotors, Their still good. the techs said its probably an upper ball joint..but obviously they where wrong..acura came to the same conclusions. i think its a blown shock..because it makes the noise when theres pressure on the suspension. when backing up n braking theres no noise, but turning the wheel there is. when ever theres torque, theres the chrunching sound. its more of a crunch then a grind...sound like a spring or something which is what has everyone i take it to confused. I asked the techs, an replaced what they said it could be..next step is shocks again.

where did u purchase the driveshafts from?

New or rebuilt?

2nd rebuilt one. Acura said it could also be the steering rack???

steering rack bushing perhaps? but i think that's a long shot.

i am aware of CV shafts having numurous names, no doubt. "drive shaft" is not an exception. the specific term "drive shaft" is for a rear wheel drive vehicles only. the same way how you wouldnt call a drive shaft on a 240SX a "CV shaft" or "Half Shaft". although they are similar in concept, they are two completely different terminologies. thats all i was trying to point out...
