Rev Matching

Got a question about rev-matching.

Say you're on 4th gear and you want to downshift to 3rd, which way is the better way:

- While in 4th, step on clutch (while holding clutch), rev match (whilte in 4th), then shift to 3rd, then let go of clutch.

or

- While in 4th, step on clutch (while holding clutch), shift to 3rd, rev match (in 3rd now), then let go of clutch.

i dont think it makes a difference.

I do the seond method, but I was thinking that the first method might save the syncros, since the syncros would be brought up to speed BEFORE downshifting.

They're you go. You answered your own question.

If you shift into the lower gear before matching the revs, your still engaging the gear at the slower speed of the engine. So, reving furthur is pointless.

You gotta understand how a tranny works. If the shifter is not in the neutral position, then it's in a gear. In order to get into that said gear your have to match up the sychros first. So doing it to save the syncro's isn't working if doing it the second way.

By doing it the second way, your just basically revving in neutral. Your also saving the clutch disk by introducing less wear and tear. Which also helps minimize weight transfer if done while turning. Also it keeps you from bogging down the engine and jerking up your passengers, lol.

They're is no wrong way, but there is different uses for both ways.

i think i'm still in 4th when i rev it up...or maybe just get it into neutral...i can't remember
----, now it's bugging me. i don't really think about it when i do it and i do it quick enough that i don't know what i do first...thanx for brain ------- me

I blip the throttle a little bit to get the revs up, then I downshift to third at the right rpm. I cant remember what rpm exactly because I just do it without looking at the tach.

I dont know if thats the right way to do it, but thats the way I was taught.

u should be shifting before u go into the gear. the first method makes more sense.
