Rebuilding/Re-Freshing A Block?
So as most people know, I'm close to boosting my car. Part of me wants to refresh the motor before boosting it. I would just feel better personally.
What I'm wondering is, what would a basic rebuild for a GS-R block cost me? Plus refreshing the head too.

if you are already going to rebuild the motor, why not upgrade some of the main stress points, i.e. pistons, rods, bearings, rings, seals, ARP headbolts (are cheap insurance)?
realistically you are looking at 500 to 800 for a motor rebuild

If you took the entire motor apart yourself, thats a pretty good price range (for a basic cleaning and cylinder hone).
If you wanted a mild port and polish, your looking at an extra $500.
At the very least, replace your bearings/seals/rings/studs/gaskets. You could also pick up decent pistons and rods for under $1000.

There's plenty to do outside my room but I choose not to!

in many cases you'll have to bore the cylinders because it's an open deck sleeve, they tend to go out of round with age and mileage.
cyls 2 and 3 were out of round by .004in on my block so i bored .5mm over. because of that i had to buy new pistons and rings.
for just the block machine work, expect to mill the deck, hone the mains and possibly bore and hone the cylinders.

if your going boost, might aswell do some things for cheap insurance while your in there. a set of ARP studs, forged pistons and rods can go a long way. besides they are
cheap(ish) now too.
