radiator questions...
i have couple of questions, my car the radiator dose not work,
but how do i tell it's the fan that don't work or the rad it's self has problems?... also do the fans on top of the rad turn on when you turn your car on or dose it turn on when you want ac...? and installation..how easy or hard is it?..is it worth going to a shop for?... |
check fluid levels in rad and overflow tank...make sure there are no leaks...
the fan turns on when the car just hits over normal operating temp, and bring it back to normal operating temp... so make sure there is coolant, turn on the car, let it run till the fan turns on..if it doesn't turn on...something wrong with the fan |
so your saying the fan dose not turn on right away?...
i all ways thought it did.. lol.... because i started my car and checked the hood, and they weren't even turning...so i don't know if my fans are also broken... but i will get it replaced this weekend.... |
nope like buddy just said the fans job is basically to turn on when there is no air coming through ure bumper into ure rad, the fan then takes over.... alot of guys out there i know who are running swapped motors just connect the rad so its always on nomatter what... i guess it provides more peace of mind, my 89 crx was like that, didnt really do anything special to my cooling though....
also if ure overheating, check ure water pump, check for leaks underneath ure car or if u smell anything sweet around ure engine bay |
like i can still drive the car but nto for a while because of the over heating,
i don't smell anything unless it's over heated like, when it hits H on the meter then i smeel it otherwise i don't. and there are no leaks under the car for anything...except the rad of that's what the owner told me but i didn't see any leaks off that rad either... |
ok bro just one little peice of advice for u...
STOP DRIVING THE CAR!!!!!!! that is unless u enjoy having to replace ure headgasket, they warp under extreme heat and then they will blow allowing coolant and oil into ure pistons. park ure car and leave it alone until u figured out what is wrong, like we already told u, check ure coolant level in ure resevoir(plastic see through container) and then check radiater coolant levels(MAKE SURE URE ENGINE ISNT HOT FIRST!!) the coolant should always be near the top at least from my experiences, even if ure fan isnt working the car should still be cooled when driving around(i think somebody can correct me if im wrong...) check if ure water pump is working, let engine cool, fill up ure rad with coolant and then with the cap off turn ure engine on and see if the mixture starts bubbling, let all the air bubbles out also thats how u know its being pumped... if theres anything i got wrong or missed somebody correct me... |
lol..don't worry my friend...it's parked at my buddies, i only drove it from where i bought it from to my friends house that's it...
i think it maybe the rad only, i will replace it and see how it gose from there... if it's still heating up then it's serious...probbly take it to a machnic, so i will report back on sunday..letting you know if i got any problems still.. plus the car needs a full tune up on the engine... |

before changing ur rad ask a shop to do a coolent leak test. they pressure test ur cooling system for any leaks then go from there dont jus go changing ur rad unnecessary expenses.
plus the rad fan only comes on when the engine starts to heat up never stays on forever unless u re - wire it urself. ur overheating could be due to a minor thing like a broken coolent hose or something small so do that test first then decide what to do. if u have a sour smell u have a leak somewhere. DO THE LEAK TEST FIRST :) most shops wont charge to check your coolent system jus ask for a pressure test. |

sounds good bro, actually i just put insurance on my teg today and started driving, and i noticed my engine was wayyy too clean to be the original, looked newly swapped in and mounts looked new too... so then i checked egine code and its a b18b, so looks like im good in terms of engine for a while but now i need clutch and lower control arms

theres alot of tegs da's at the wreckers at steels and swells (standard auto wreckers) may 3rd and 4th is a big day there pay 50$ walk out with watever u can carry so im gona be reaching the for sure 1 of my bois coming with me to. jus gota find a van :)

its a possibillity but the best thing to do is do the pressure test no point wasting money on something that dosnt need fixing

My rad just blew when i was doing an e-test. The fan doesn't work I'm pretty sure lol. Also my pass side window doesnt work, AC/Heater sunroof and power locks. My driver side window does work? Anyone have any ideas???

you blew youre power accessory fuse im pretty sure, check ure fuse box in ure door

Welcome to my world, i traded my 92 civic hatchback for this car and i don't have clue whats wrong with the power options and fan. I took it my friends shop hes going to check out all the electrical. QUICK question. While getting my car e-tested my rab blew is the shop liable?

The top of the rad just blew lol, well i got most of fixed i believe, only thing that doesn't work is my passanger window... I'm thinking motor?????

most likely ya the motor for sure, do u hear any sounds at all like its struggling or it just doesnt work period?

yup swap out the motor from one in a junk yard, see if that helps

Okay, i have a quick question. Do the cooling fans come off and on while driving? Or do they stay on until they feel its cool enough? I just drove about 15km got home popped my hood and didn't see them running so i was wondering do they come off and on?

ye they only come on wen temperature is high and go off once it cool.
