radiator question.

is it normal for integra vehicles to have empty radiators because my radiator neck or cap is always empty i pour in coolant and it all goes in the reservoir tank. also the car temperature guage inside stays between cold and hot which is normal. if i have a blown head gasket how much does it cost to get it fixed from midas?

thank you

Dave YO 08-30-2008 01:54 PM

the neck is not supposed to stay full to the top. if its going to the resovoir common sense would tell you the rad if full.

also LOL at the midas comment

aryan 08-30-2008 02:01 PM

nah man its my first ever car bought with hard earned money over the time of high school. i asked other people they said u have blown head gasket which costs thousands of dollars to fix and i am very worried. not doubting your knowledge its just i am not good about cars. i check my friends civic his radiator cap keeps a little coolant while my integra just sucks the coolant and puts it in the plastic tank reservoir is this normal? no there is no leakage (except one of the rubber pipes had a whole which caused some leaks but i have replaced the pipe now).

Dave YO 08-30-2008 03:44 PM

if you had a blown headgasket you would get overheating. even if you had a blown head gasket its not that expensive
if your that worried about it bring it by the shop and ill test it

stay away from the bigger name shops they are all hack/cons
canadian tire
midas
speedy
etc etc

blown90b16teg@11psi 08-30-2008 08:54 PM

if its a b18a or b iv got a rebuilt head if you need it. been there done that and ill sell it cheap

aryan 08-30-2008 11:19 PM

i think i figured what the problem is, its leaking somewhere underneath the radiator fan.i have got to check that area for any leakage.. :(

mkmk 08-31-2008 12:24 AM

maybe your radiator is busted lol.....
if your radiator is leaking there is a crack in it...
radiator are cheap around 100 from shop 50 used...
and there easy to install just couple of screws and you just gotta drain the fluid which is by opening the tap at the bottom of the radiator...

well i still cant figure out where its leaking from? this morning when the engine was cold i cleaned all the leaked coolant. (the coolant plastic reservoir tank was near MIN and this morning all coolant was gone) so i cleaned wherever the leaks were filled coolant, drove around for like 2 kms and saw afew drops of coolant on my driveway when i laid down to see where it was coming from and the closest prediction was its leaking from somewhere near the oil pan or oil filter.

Smartass pHO 08-31-2008 10:19 AM

It's coming from your coolant leak regulator. If this regulator doesn't operate properly, your coolant leaks.

i went under the car to see any visible leakages. i didn't find any coolant leaking but when i backed up the car in my garage and after i set the car on jack i saw a few drops of oil droping when i wiped the bolts there it stopped. anyways i have uploaded some pictures if u guys find anything unusual there please let me know..i would like to get an estimate before i drive to a garage and find out i can't afford the repair.

My rad was leaking along the top edges, along in your first pic.
It was obvious from all the green fluid caking on.
I did not have any dripping on the floor or white smoke from the exhaust so I figured it evapourated into the atmosphere.

aryan 08-31-2008 06:12 PM

well thing i cant see any visible leaks. its been sitting in my driveway for 2-3 hours and there is nothing on the ground. it must be leaking while driving. becuz last night i filled the plastic reservoir tank and drove about 40-50 kms and this morning when i checked it was all coolant was gone.

jasonjai 09-26-2008 02:15 AM

have a shop trace the leak, probably they will use a UV dye, then trace it using a blacklight, they'll probably need the car overnight though.

Action Jackson 09-26-2008 02:37 AM

I never saw any pooling of coolant from my rad and it drank a lot of coolant.
It was evaporating from just under the head of rad b/c I could see green crusty buildup.
Teamintegra.net has a section just on coolant problems.

edeh 09-26-2008 02:57 PM

your engine is about to go.. if you are missing a lot of coolant from the RES, then most likely your gasket is about to go.. give it a couple of months before problems start arising if you don't take care of it soon.. try looking for a new engine.. or replace the head gasket .. and do a check on the timing belt

blown90b16teg@11psi 09-26-2008 08:31 PM

still got that rebuilt head price drop $150 flows better than stock

aryan 09-26-2008 09:58 PM

thanks guys for the replys. i fixed my radiator it had a crack. the radiator was cracked/broken which caused the leakage.

carpartts84 09-27-2008 10:15 AM

many people think that their integras radiator is cracked thats why they see fluid near the fan .....etc.... The leak for most cases come from a bad radiator cap always change the cap before you do costly repairs!

aryan 09-27-2008 07:00 PM

^^ well said!

untouchable94 04-29-2009 09:03 PM

if your getting whits some out the tail pipe you probably have an internal leak but it sounds like you need a thermostat
