do you need a subframe brace when installing itr sway bar thats 22mm+ or can you wing it with the stock frame...?

Back and forth with this one. some say you dont, that the stock subframe is fine. Some say you do, because the ITR sway bar was designed originally for the type R and the Type R has a stiffer or thicker subframe in comparison to our lower model tegs.

Call BS. As long as it all mounts in i dont see how a "thicker" subframe would help/affect it at all. If your subframe flexes, you have an issue...

There are no issue it works fine with the stock subframe.

Yep, just slap it on and enjoy. I wouldn't bother with a beaks scraper bar.

btw i have another question... i hear a humming sound when i drive over 50 km and get worst the higher i go.. could this be a wheel bearing..sounds like the rear.... i know its best to go to a shop..but i was wondering if i am right... and should i get it fized right away.. if it is a wheel bearing...

It all depends what the noise really is...but they way I look at something if it's busted it's only gonna get worse and maybe damage more things. Explain where and what the noise is exactly it's really hard to think what it is over the internet in person it's much different.

i believe its the rear because i can hear my intake...and i also hear the humming way behind me...so for sure its the rear...and im just wondering if its the wheel bearing... the humming noise gets louder and louder the faster i go..and when i deaccelerate..i can hear a decrease in the sound or it sounds like the spinning of the wheel is slowly getting slower...lol... it is hard to explain... but i got a qoute for a replacement for rear wheel bearing... and they said..270 with labour...wtf is that worth it?.... if the wheel bearing is under 100 ..is it hard to replace?.... (IF EVER ITS THE WHEEL BEARING)

Get up to speed of 60+km/h on an empty road and turn left/right, loading up the suspension and pushing more weight on the corner with a bad wheel bearing will cause it to get louder. So...if you are turning left and you hear the humming get louder, its your right wheel bearing or vice versa.

Get the car up on a jack/stands and shake the wheel around. Most likely if its that bad and making so much noise, chances are, you will feel play in the wheel. Get the wheel off the ground and holding it at opposite ends, shake it around. If the same kind of play persists all the way around regardless of where you hold it, you are holding the wheel with bad bearing. Moreover make sure you check ball joint/tie rod play if the wheel is wiggling around a little, just to rule out those two things.


Oh and just check the front too, because i kept hearing humming sound in the back end of my brothers prelude, after doing a quick inspection, its the front and not back. Sometimes its kind of hard to distinguish whether its in the front or back.

Almost forgot, regarding the quote you got, yeah that's about right. It is not an easy job. Rear wheel bearings must be pressed in and are complete pita to get it out of the hub. Sometimes it comes out very smooth, sometimes it doesn't. I was doing a front wheel bearing on a 04 Saturn Vue last week and it was not fun. Though the car is not that old, it was quite the challenge to get it out.


ARG edit one more time. Checked service manual, seems like the hub has the bearing pressed in. So labor isn't hard really, just little time consuming since everything is gonna be rotted.

dam thanks so much.. yea if anything il talk to the the shop and let them figure it out.. and if it is the wheel bearing and you said the price is about right...i wont feel any guilt... but thanks a lot.. i just hope i have more knowledge about these things and tools and it would really save alot of money..

Well front bearing...there is no way. You need a heavy duty hydraulic press. Now for the back you can do it yourself, hell worst comes to worse, i can probably help you out.

After thinking about this "humming" noise I kept thinking to myself possible camber wear on the tires...do you have camber or did you buy rims/tires off someone that had a lot of camber...my friends EP3 Hums like crazy when driving and the faster he goes the louder it gets...just putting it out there.

When replacing the sway bar...do you need to replace the end links also?... I have a used itr sway bar with end links...should i install the whole thing or can I just install the sway bar and use my old end links?..

You can use the old endlinks.

My suggestion is to replace the front sway bar as well. It seems to be overlooked alot. But Theres a reason there is 2 sway bars, they both do something. Just the shitty lower model teg ones dont do much lool. You can get a JDM ITR 24 or 25mm front sway and it'll be a pretty nice upgrade

Trust me upgrading the front is unnecessary the ITR and Stock really are almost Identical.

arent the front ...around 22mm already?..and the back 14mm?... just making sure...

and do i need new bushings and new stuff?..the sway bar comes with everything except the bracket but their used...

and the bracket i think i can get at the dealer? or you guys know a place?..

ya the backs are either 14 or 16mm the Rear ITR one is about 22.6mm I got my sway bar used and just put it on with what it came with and worked/works perfectly with no problems.

I used the stock brackets but added about 2 washers on both sides.

i just got my wheel barring hub replaced...and the mechanic said it usually will make some noise due to the rust for a day or 2...is this true?...i still hear some noise..but only 2/10 compared to 8/10 before... i just want to know if this is true... does it usually make some noise when its new?...
