question

Just bought my teg about a month ago,
1995, b18b1 with type r pistons, full exhaust with dc headers and aem cold air, stage 2 clutch, but my question is that im getting about 370km on a tank of gas (91+ gas). is this normal? or should i go for a tune up?

jasonjai 05-13-2009 07:52 PM

is the car lowered? bad alignment can also use up gas.

joshveiga 05-13-2009 07:53 PM

yes its lowered,

If you just bought it about a month ago, I would definately get on the safe side and make sure a tune up is done, oil is changed, get records of whether timing belt/water pump have been changed. Last thing you want is getting screwed over because of regular maintenance.
It's hard to say whether 370 is good or bad because it does depend on many factors. Lowering the car may effect it (alignment purposes) but your driving habits has a huge factor of how many km you get. Is it highway driven mostly, city driven? Heavy foot? I personally think you should be able to get atleast 400 km with no problems. There are some people who get even close to 500 per tank just to give you an idea.

To start, I think you should probably get a tune up done. Not just for the mileage, but to be on the safe side and to protect what you just bought...

Make sure you tire pressures at all the same and at what your door plate says for them to be at. Plus getting a tune up would not hurt.

how bout not using 91+ gas and sticking with what the honda recomendations which is 87. shouldnt be using 91 oct. gas on a b18b1 with few mods

Totalpkg 05-17-2009 07:42 PM

Yup, if your driving normally I would say you should be getting 400+km. A full tune up and check where your timing is at. Also, check your air pressure in your tires.

With about 50/50 city/highway I tend to get 450-500kms to a tank on my chipped 98spec B18C and from time to time I have a pretty heavy foot.

got a 96 gsr, stock engine, but lowered, and I donno the milage, haven't had the car long, but using 91 oct, i've had over 400km to a tank when I filled up.

I get around 475-550, all depends on how i drive, and i have a b18b swaped into my civic. Yeah running higher grade gas does nothing for your car, and so many people think it makes more power, your wrong, you lose power by doing it. The higher grade gas is made to take away engine knock, not make power, run the proper gas in your car, and you should be fine.

Doesn't less engine knock equal more power? So in other other words higher grade gasoline would add power if you have pinging/knock issues. ( not too mention they usually have more cleaning additives and give you better gas mileage )

I put 91 octane in my LS the odd time, and I see a big increase in performance. On 87 the car feels sluggish..

I don't understand how a higher grade gas would make you lose power though...

I actually filled up on 91 because Esso was giving it for the same price as 87 since they ran out of it and figured i would see how many K i would get. I do about 50/50 hwy/city driving. And I hit 598km before the light came on again. I could have probably gone another 20 k I assume. I was quite impressed with 600 Km/tank.

Torqueless_In_Toronto 05-28-2009 09:15 AM

ummm when the light comes on, you have approx 10L still in reserve, so that means you could have gone another 150km...
