Port and polish

Hey guys. I'm thinking about port and polishing my gsr. Just wondering how much is the average costs....different types of port n' polish....good places to get it done....how much horsepower gain....or any other info would be greatly appreciated.

To do a proper job, your looking around $1000 for the job, but that also includes a valve job. You will notice it more in the mid to top end of the RPM range. How much power you will gain, you will never know unless to dyno it before and after the job, but you will get a few more HP, but nothing big. I will be doing mine myself in the new year.

p&p is retarded on a honda thats near stock.... stupid waste.

Now when my cousin built his motor for a turbo setup, everything was off and all apart so the machine shop did one on his head for 300. but thats cus they were already building the motor etc. dont bother with it unless your doing a build. to wake up and say i want a p&p, is stupid. you wont even notice on a simple engine. maybe a lil but not worth the time and money.

put the money into a turbo or something better.

+1 for just going turbo...unless you are building as nasty NA

Well...if it's gonna cost $1000....I might as well put on a turbo. I'll think about it. Thanks guys

P&P is one of those things you do just cus your doing a build and your motor is all apart anyway. if your doing an extensive build, where you'll have most of your motor apart, hell do it.

For that money you can piece together most of the turbo kit if you know where to look.
Or
Buy some bling 20s haha

P&P was a procedure initially used on domestic heads that had poor air flow. Over time this was used on all motors.

But with respect to comments made above... it's not required yet for your car.

Think about what you want from your motor... EXACTLY what you want.

When you speak to engine machine shops that do this (and build engines they) first off need to know what the motor will be intended for. From there with their experience they can advise you on how to build your motor.

There are soooooo many ways to add hp but its all one part at a time.

If you just want more responsive power for the street consider starting with better header (not a cheapie) slightly larger exhaust pipe, mandrel pipe bends and a better flowing muffler. This with a decent COLD air intake can get a few hp.

From there a larger throttle body.

Then maybe its time for cams.... Now you will need to double up your exhaust valve springs. Still leave the head alone.

Maybe some cam gears as well.

Most people leave the head to the last thing. It will get you that final HP.

Plus if the P&P is done by a person who doesn't know the motor then you may do more harm than good. Some heads need certain areas worked out. Also overpolishing a head is not good either.

Basically start with bolt on's. When you want 240plus all motor HP then get to a pro machine shop for more advise.

Good luck with your car.

Plus take it to the track for some real fun. ;)
