To swap a GS-R head onto it not worth it, you are looking at spending any where between $1300-$1700 for the swap, you can boost your engine for that much, and make lot more power and be faster. You could rebuild your engine, and just get new cams, and valve train, and be running just around the power of the ls/vtec swap, as well as install a header and a cat back system, and a intake as well.

To the right. Jking.
As spike said, ls-vtec is not worth it. Low budget boost can be reliable as long as you know what you can buy used/cheap and what you shouldn't. If you have time and patience you can piece together a turbo kit quite cheap, just need to wait for the right deal. I was researching the ls-vtec setup a while back, and for it to make decent power, you must get higher compression pistons like p30 or p3r (I believe, its been a while) since they will mount up to the stock rods, otherwise for the pistons to work you need rods and for rods to work you need crank. So even if you do get the right pistons, you will have to pay somebody to install em, doubt you will be able to take on a job like that by yourself. Then you should really get a b16 or gsr transmission for shorter gears and ontop of all that chipped computer with an appropriate software (meaning custom tune). If you will not be doing any of the work, it will cost you quite a lot. Now ofcourse you could just slap a vtec head and call it a day, but its still gonna be slow and won't be worth the work. With turbo you can get all parts for about 1500$ and if you have general knowledge of mechanics, you could install it or get few friends to help out. Its really not that hard. Only problem that could occure is the downpipe-cat connection, but if you get a used downpipe it is very likely that it will bolt up. In the end even if you do spend few extra bucks on the turbo, the results will be much more rewarding than what you would get out of ls or ls-vtec for that money. |
turbo is the way to go. Just make sure its done right and tuned right. addicted preformance does turbo setups good, in hamilton.
