Pls Help Asap - Doing Timing Belt, Gears Won't Line Up
Hope you can help guys, I really need this thing back on the road tomorrow and I can't sort out the timing. I've followed the procedure for installing it, tensioning etc. But I can't get the timing marks to line up! I've tried it one tooth one way or the other but then it ends up being WAY off. Now it's off by like half a tooth. Is this fine or do I have to keep troubleshooting? If the latter, what can you suggest? Is it a defective belt (Continental)?
What it looks like: http://www.castironlife.com/images/i...ing_belt/2.jpg http://www.castironlife.com/images/i...ing_belt/1.jpg http://www.castironlife.com/images/i...ing_belt/4.jpg Crank is at TDC, the mark on the cover is in the middle of the 3 dots: http://www.castironlife.com/images/i...ing_belt/3.jpg |
Got it, pls lock!

that last picture isn't with the crank at TDC, thats 16 degrees BTDC, where you're supposed to line up the ignition timing.
The TDC mark the is white mark further up on the crank pulley, its a single mark all by itself. |

LS and b20 cams have a large hex shape on them where you can put a wrench on them to hold em still. Thats a 2 person job though.

i have a snap on tool that locks the two cams together. never ever had a problem using the cam lock holes tho
