Painting Calipers

I have a new set of calipers all around and just bought the duplicolor caliper paint kit i chose the kit because it doesn't come with the spray paint its a can with a brush which i prefer because its less masking and the calipers r assembled (dont wanna disassemble them)...so now im thinking should i just pain the visible parts on the caliper or paint as much of the caliper as i can front to back

would u guys paint the whole thing or just the visible parts?

JDM_overdose 01-10-2010 02:36 PM

Just paint the visibal parts bro.

Thats all you need.

Spike 01-10-2010 03:11 PM

It's up to you really, most people would only paint the parts that people will see through the rims, me myself I would paint the whole thing, but that's me.

B20teg 01-10-2010 05:54 PM

Same as Spike

I would take them off and spray them. Masking all the boots and holes. It just looks better, you'll be able to get better coats of paint on. I also prefer the rattle can. That's just me.

Im not going to paint mine once i get them. They will flake after and its kinda rice. If you want color calipers, get spoon or brembo.

redteggy 01-10-2010 06:16 PM

id just paint the parts u can see, what colour you gonna paint it anyway?

The kit he has, there is no spray painting, you paint them with a brush.

painting new calipers as much as you can is a good idea. they tend to rust fast... i painted my with the caliper enamel paint and they are nice... and i unbolted then and painted them that way to get it all. but if you dont prep then well, they will flake like overdose said. i used brake cleaner and wire brushed then with a drill for so long lol, all my calipers took me like 6 hours total lol.

I kinda wanna paint my calipers now. Make them gold.

Ps.. yo xnix. i got my engine today:D. check the thread "post your latest purchace".

BlackAck 01-18-2010 08:52 PM

The person i bought my teggy off sprayed the calipers and they stick now when its cold. Is this cus they used cheap paint?

Buff4Prez Yo 01-19-2010 10:46 AM

check your sliders. paint could have nothing to do with it.

i kept it simple, i painted mine black. no sense in making OEM calipers stand out. i used Bar-B-Q paint on mine. closest thing you can get to high heat powder coating.

I did exactly what the op did, came out nice. I used the Duplicolour red kit and did the whole caliper, everything. The calipers were new/remanned semi-loaded. After a winter of driving with them though, they were starting to rust, so they'd need to be done again if re-used/re-installed. My car was hit and parted so they're now sitting in a box.
Hope that helps.

Buddy of mine did his used calipers with Dupli-colour brush paint... looks awesome.

I have always sprayed them.

But when using a colour other than black I strongly suggest spraying 2 coats of Tremclad white first. The white will make the blues and red pop like crazy. Without the white you are in for many coats of red and really can't the colour just right.

This all from years of painting calipers.... and red paint is NOT just for Brembo.... brembo now has Gold on the G37... guess we can't use gold either? ;)

i bought the red kit since its a maroon car
i think im just gonna paint as much as i can on the rears to get them on quick but ill take my time with the fronts in the spring so they're nice and ready when i need to put them on

i bought the set more for the rears my e brake is just retarted and the rears dont even ope or close my rear rotors never even get warm when driving

I'm in the same boat as Buff4Prez Yo. I also painted them black with a spray can. I was thinking about doing it in "Spoon" blue but changed my mind.

DoS 01-21-2010 01:10 PM
