paint the moldings and skirts

mechatune 06-16-2005 04:52 PM

just paint the mouldings. the sideskirts match w/ the black plastic oem underlip.

if u plan on getting a lip, then paint the sideskirts.

otherwise i think painted side skirts only look good on type r's (shaved mouldings)

If u shave da mouldings u might as well paint da whole car because the doors and rear qaurters have to be painted. It is easier to buy nice side skirts and have them done at the same time, the car will look nice thats what i did to my white 94 rs teg. The plastic oem skirtwill chip because it wasn't desined to be painted. Another option you could just have the side molding painted and have a after market skirt painted it would be cheaper. When you weld and fill in the holes for the molding you create a fault in the sheet metal which result in rusting in the future. Trust me i do auto body!

First off all, you can paint the side skirts aslong as you prep them well, sand them and everything... and the paint will stick to them aslong as you do it right. Second off all if you decide to buy aftermarket side skirts (fiberglass) the paint will chip off them easier, cause the paint doesn't hold to fiberglass well. Unlike the stock parts which are made from urathene.

If you decide to shave off moldings, the metal will contract and will make the body wavy, if the mechanic doesn't do it right. But there is some mechanics that will do it good and you don't have to worry about; another option is buying type R door skins and installing them on your door.... then the body won't be wavy, but its $$$. Or you can just paint them.

You can paint side moldings and side skirts no problem.... trust me, I've done it to my cars, and I didn't have any problems nor did I get rust from shaving off the moldings.

Thats the dumbest thing I have heard all all week, good luck with that!

I dont want to start ---- with you, but I must say your a dumb ass. You say you do Auto Body, but yet you don't know anything about it.

I wouldn't let you come close with a screwdriver to any car.

Yes Door Skins... I had it done to my car.

Its an expensive modification, the reason I did it , was cause the type R doors I had, were damaged from the inside, so the skin of the door was only taken from it.
Personally I recommend getting the whole door, its less work.
