Over Heating?
 

So i have had my integra parked for a while in storage and every now and then i start it and drive it around. I took the car out about a couple of months ago and decided to check all fluids on the car. I opened the radiator cap to check the coolant level, and checked all other fluids.

I took the car out again on the weekend and drove it around the block and had it started for about 30 mins and noticed that the temperature guage was almost 3/4 way to Hot. I know that is not normal and i didnt want to open the rad cap because the car was too hot and i didnt have time to stick around and wait.

I wanted to know if anyone has a diagnose for me. Could it be possible air bubbles? There is no leak what so ever i checked all the hoses.

Any help would be appreciated.

could be air in the system. did your fan kick on?

if u have full coolent could b a faulty thermostat not opening. if u dont have coolent u could have a leak somewhere.

most likely depending on how long your car was stored for and where it was stored, the alcohols/acidic compounds in your coolant are pretty much all gone and now basically its just water cooling it off. Also wat buff said about your fan kicking in. Does it only do that when ure car is still or also driving around. Change ure coolant and see if that helps, and dont mix coolants together cuz that isnt smart.

And try replacing your Thermostat

you do realise you can run straight water... anitfreeze is only to stop it from freeing.... yes it does raise the boiling point and lower the freezing point. But like I said you can run straight water.

well ya ofcourse you could technically but antifreeze/coolant has extra compounds and/or ions that are put in to increase the normal boiling point of the H2O molecule, meaning the heat will dissipate quicker as well.... but ya u could use water, i had to do that one time on the way from my house to the shop to get my radiater fixed in my rex

Theres also rust inhibitors in most reputable brands of coolant. I personally would never run any pure water in my car, even distilled water. As well, theres very little/no calcium in coolant compared to tap/well/distilled water.

^ right on!!! thats right i forgot to mention the rust inhibitors which is why the green coolant is more acidic and the orange one is supposedly more basic ( i think or its the other way around lol)... and when you mix the two you just end up canceling out the rust inhibitors and thats very dangerous....

o and also coolant contains certain elements to keep seals expanded and moisturized and prevent them from cracking....

so now lets see ppl say that coolant is just water and and antifreeze mixed together

i was talking to nbk and he was guessing that it is my thermostat because the car has been parked for over a year even though i start it now and then. with the brutal cold this past winter and the car not getting started it might have gone coo coo.

Im going to try and replace the thermostat and then take it from there. The coolant level is perfect, there are no leaks i am sure.

I would say idle the car and see if your fan comes on. As an alternative you can turn the ignition on and jump the connector for the fan switch which should be on the thermostat housing (if I'm not mistaken). Also to see if the thromostat is opening let the car heat up and check the lower rad hose, if that is as hot as the upper hose then it may not be the thermostat.
