we can use 5.25 - 6.5 inches depending on what kind of speaker mount is used. also speaker depth is important too..

the speaker diameter is 6.5" it doesn't take into account the overall diameter of the speaker basket, as well as the taper of the basket. there are some cheaper, inexpensive, entry level speakers that use the same basket as the honda oem speaker and can fit without cutting the basket cover that protects the rear of the magnet from water coming between the doors. these speakers have shallow mounts.

you can fit most aftermarket 5.25" speakers by trimming the plastic basket cover.

some better, high performance 6.5" speakers will fit by removing the plastic basket. this is typically the case if the woofer has a neodynium magnet (up to 10 times more powerful that ferrite) which will allow for a shallower mounting depth.

most better 6.5" speakers will need a spacer plate (because of the mounting depth or taper of the speaker basket) for proper installation.... basically the lip of the speaker frame should sit perfectly flush with the mounting surface, otherwise you get front and backwave cancellation and you loose bass.

some 6.5" speakers will require you to cut the door frame to cut the speaker.
