which one?

i have a b20b should i go turbo or do a k20 swap?

and which is faster?

D.T.P 10-01-2010 01:58 PM

Turbo over K any day.

AcuratePaul 10-01-2010 02:22 PM

You'd get more power out of turboing your b20b and it would be cheaper as well.

holung 10-01-2010 04:26 PM

Not trying to jack sometimes thread but is it better to turbo a b18 or b20?

Krishanth 10-01-2010 10:27 PM

thx guys i was thinking the same thing but i dont know to much about this stuff yet

D.T.P 10-02-2010 06:48 AM

Holung, I'd personally go with b18 over b20 for boost. Unless you are going big and spending lotsa coin.

Op, if you have any questions, search or ask away. There are several people on here who are very knowledgeable and are glad to help.

how much do u think it's gonna cost after the turbo is bought to get everything tuned and installed for the b20, because i noticed you said its costly, DTP

and its a no name turbo wht do u think of tht?

AcuratePaul 10-03-2010 12:47 PM

I'm gonna say anywhere between $4500-$5500

The cost will vary depending you your power goal and the components you use.

What type of use is this car going to see and how much power do you want to make?

Be prepared to set aside at least $400-600 for tuning alone.

Also, who is going to be doing the work putting everything together? You need to make sure they are very knowledgeable and experienced.

Don't forget, if you have a stock b20 non-vtec, you can alway swap for a vtec head and have a very quick NA motor for not a lot of money. I don't recommend boosting a b20 with it's weak cylinder liners.

Krishanth 10-04-2010 09:36 AM

i heard when u go vtec with a b20 the vtec can get messed up and not run right after awhile is tht true?

Where the heck did you hear that??? lol

As long at everything is done properly, the proper parts are used and it's tuned well, it should be just as reliable as any other engine.

I suggest you do LOTS of research on the topic. C-speedracing's website has a step by step process with pics on how to do a proper ls/b20 vtec motor. It's really not that complex if you do everything right. Though it's not as simple as pulling the stock head off and slapping on a vtec head. You must remove the engine from the car and do everything properly.

Krishanth 10-04-2010 12:53 PM

lol this guy said that man... unless you rebuild the whole motor its not a good idea... tht was my original plan at first but then after i heard that... i was like what the %$#@

MPR 10-04-2010 01:49 PM

Well there are certain things you need to do to make sure it's reliable. Like use a water pump and oil pump from a vtec motor (b16/b18c/5)...

You don't have to rebuild the whole motor, but it is more work then most people think. It also depends on how much power you want to make. If you want to run it with more compression and at higher rpm's, then you have to build it to handle that. A stock b20 bottom end will not like spinning 8000rpm+ on a daily basis...lol.

Krishanth 10-05-2010 08:29 PM

if i build it with high compression it will not b a good idea to go turbo if i wanted to in the future right?

MPR 10-06-2010 08:48 AM

You can boost a higher compression engine, but, without getting into all the details, it is generally safer and more reliable to boost a lower compression engine.

^^^agreed!
i find the k motor over rated. id rather swap a cl engine instead way more power.

turboing a b20 at low boost you shouldnt run into to to much trouble any higher and youd want to resleeve it.
a lower compression engine leaves more room for error if im correct.

MPR 10-07-2010 09:27 AM

A lower compression engine leaves more room for error... to a certain degree, yes.
