in need of serious advice

Hey there guys I need some advice like the title says. I have had a grinding noise coming from the tires for almost a week now thought I would bring it in and i suspected it was a wheel bearing.

Long story short took it to a mechanic today and he said it was a bearing in the gear box and that it would cost 900 dollars to fix.

What I am wondering, is there a way to do this cheaper and if so how. I just moved to toronto and I don't have the contacts like back home. Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Bryce

what he said...unless you get lucky on the net, and find someone selling a used bearing...im guessing its the main bearing on the input shaft..

thanks guys

Yeah I am thinking it is the main bearing on the input shaft as that is what it feels like. I am not concerned about finding a used one as I will buy new. However it seems a little steep to replace it. The mechanic was trying to pressure me to get it done on the spot. Anyways does anyone know were I can take it?

Toronto area.

keep the thoughts coming and thanks for the previous advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Bryce

Replacing the gear box would be cheaper.
