My Boost Keeps Droping Up and Down

i got a d16z6 with a garrette t3t4 turbo , turbsmart 38mm Wg, i jsut bought the car , the car was runing 15psi solid , and now i noticed that sometimes it drops to 12 then 14 and always different , wha could be the problem ? checked all the vac lines and charge pipes any idea's would be great thnks guys :jack:

journal or ball bearing? u adjust boost electronically or is there a spring on the wastegate

b18cef9 Apr 12, 2008 07:33 PM

no non ball bearing not sure kinda new to turbo's but i kno its not ball bearing

DJINFERNO806 Apr 12, 2008 07:44 PM

well check the boost spring and see if that might be the culprit since u said u already checked the vac lines and charge pipes, also if ure bov is faulty and maybe seized it could be leaking boost, ive heard of that happening b4

yeh ill check it out my BOV is mounted on my intercooler on the side its a Greddy Type RS

i hope you're using a different MAP sensor than the stock one, the stock ones are only good for 11psi.
Without knowing if you're using a boost controller or not, its gunna be tough to figure out any problems.
Could be a potential problem with the wastegate, the bov, a boost leak or the boost controller. If its a manual boost controller and the little set/locking screw isn't tight, its possible someone/something turned the boost controller down some.

is the car louader? it could be a crack in the manifold, but check your charge piping and couplers for leaks and tears. also make sure your BOV is tight enough but no so tight that your getting a compressor surge.

i just checked out my downpipe and it has a crack in it and also my manifold gasket seems to be a lil old could that cause the boost drop and i hear a bubble wen the car is idleing , could it be the downpipe or the gasket or wha else??

FuzzyLS BRO Apr 15, 2008 07:42 PM

which manifold gasket is it? if it's the gasket between the manifold and the turbo then it could be leaking exhaust so it's not regulating boost very well.

b18cef9 Apr 15, 2008 07:56 PM

its the gasket on the head like where the manifold goes onto the head between there

FuzzyLS BRO Apr 15, 2008 09:50 PM

ok, well anyway you have leaking exhaust gas so it could very well be effecting boost. change that and then see if your still loosing boost.

b18cef9 Apr 16, 2008 06:33 AM

ok ill change the gasket and see wha happens thnks alot

b18cef9 Apr 16, 2008 08:56 PM

i just finished replacing my gasket the cars still the same ? could it be the downpipe that its cracked and wen the car is idling i hear a bubble in the exhaust could that be it ?

FuzzyLS BRO Apr 17, 2008 08:56 PM

^yes, that could very well be it, if you have an exhaust leak, expecially with a turbo, there's not enough back pressure, i'm not 100% sure if it'll effect boost, i have an exhaust leak and i still see 9psi but that could be because my motor puts out more exhuast gas (comapred to a sohc) or i still have enough back pressure.

ok thnks bro im welding my exhuast today and ill let u guys kno thnks guys
