Default Muffler/exhaust advice

just curious what parts do i need to replace my stock muffler with an aftermarket one. i am looking at magnaflow twin tip that comes with silencer. the very first time i installed a muffler it was magnaflow single tip with silencer from midas and they charged me 400 bucks parts and labour in. i know i got rapped there but it was first time, i learned my lesson.

when purchasing muffler do i need to buy the test pipe as well that connects to the exhaust pipe?

thanks

Best option: buy a full SS cat back exhaust. You'll never have to buy another exhaust again.

Next option: There's other exhaust shops out there that won't rape you. Buy the muffler and get them to install it.

Cheapest option: buy the muffler and weld it on yourself.

Test pipe replaces the cat. Big no no if you're driving the car on the street.

might as well go with the best option u have suggested. do it once and do it right.
thanks for the quickest reply. any repuatble shops u recommand for buying the full ss exhaust? is that a misconception that aftermarket exhausts/mufflers tend to increase emissions? i remember my high school teacher saying that. just curious.

i'ts pricey for full stainless. Ive seen some good prices on ebay stainless exhaust kits the mufflers may sound like ---- though. You get what you pay for.

Keep an eye on forums for used ones. Check our vendors and see what they carry.

I can't see what your auto teacher said being true. A muffler is for sound.

buddy suggested this to me once and i am considering it. get an axleback exhaust and then go get your mid-pipe custom made. buddy did for his civic(cat-axle) and cost him like 200$. i dunno if it was SS though or not

if i am not wrong in a cat-back exhaust installation they dont touch the catalytic, guess they only replace the pipes. would i ever need to worry about passing emission after getting cat-back exhaust?

No. As long as your cat is working correctly you'll be fine.

maybe try looking for an "axle back" if you just want the muffler section, as a straight bolt on. that way no welding involved, bolts right up to the b pipe.

if you want magnaflow check out noyzboyz there pretty good they will actually hook up the exhaust to your car and rev it up for you to see if you like it not but of course for a price. good guys been there a couple of times for minor exhaust work.
