MSD Setup

ok when I purchased my integra the previous owner had given me a MSD kit with it. i just wanted to know is it hard to install this or would i be better off getting a professional to do it? and how much would someone charge to install an MSD kit.

What other modifications are done to the car? If it is relatively stock, it doesn't really matter how hard it is to install, it might just be an all around waste of your time.

Also, what do you consider an "MSD setup"? Cap/rotor? Coil? Box?

Btw, it's not very difficult to install assuming you are somewhat mechanically inclined.

i'm not very mechanically inclined. and my car is relatively stock just got a cold air intake. i got the MSD 6A it self with the cap and the SS blaster coils.

It's not that hard, I bought an MSD cap and rotor to replace mine, and turns out, it's a 'performance' one, and the stock coil could blow if I didn't have a more powerful ignition coil, so I bought an external ignition coil just to be safe. (Sounds like bullshit, but I don't feel like taking a chance LOL)

MSD-6A Ignition Control - 6200

Instructions from MSD themselves.

These instructions look very confusing.

sell it to me

Clarkee 10-20-2009 04:13 PM

Ahh the MSD 6A is a lot different than just using the Blaster SS I have. It's a whole different ball game.

Sell it. Why?

A few years back I saw an article on an Turboed FWD drag car. This car (can't recall driver) was basically always in the top 5 in USA. What was pointed out was that he was running a STOCK distributor/coil setup and 650 HP! He had good NGK wires and plugs... thats it.

The Honda ignition fires so well stock that an MSD system is never required for the street.

Sell it and use cash to buy other performance parts that WILL give you honest HP!;)

Clarkee 11-03-2009 06:54 PM

^ Really? Stock? That's kinda hard to believe at 650HP.

Ok so maybe it was 649HP.

It was a full comptetion drag FWD car. It had stock dizzy! NO MSD NO aftermarket ignition whatsoever.

The reason why I am pointing this out is that the article centred around this. That is why I posted my info.

Its not BS.

These sites should be for fact only. I read it in an article and saw it... its fact.

I am also a member a competitive rally team (in fact 2).

We build motors from scratch. Some parts work well from stock and do not require any upgrading.

I am not against a good performing ignition system (but only if the cars present system is poor from the getgo).

had msd in my 400whp set up and its useless. oem is better!!!

RedTegra 12-18-2009 09:03 PM

After reading many articles, determined that the MSD doesnt really give any performance difference. does anyone know how much i can sell it for.

i have the MSD 6AL, Blaster SS coil, and the distributor cap. Buddy of mine wants it, so if its not really worth much, ill just give it to him.
