Mis Fire

Alright Heres the problem. New Wires, New spark plugs, New distributer and cap n rotor, new headers. all on the car. yet its misfiring. anyone got any idea's as to why?

Did you pull the actual code from the ECM?
After installing the aforementioned, did you reset the ECM?

Start there then report back.

Use the Integra service Manual or Helms

Code? What Code? Explain * pulling the code from the ECM??*

And I reset the ECU today..It doesnt misfire when the engines cold. but once it heats up..It misfires alot..think it would be timing?

Do you have a check engine light? There's a way to pull the code from the check engine light. If you don't have one chances are it's electrical.

My car misfired with no check engine light when my aftermarket plug wires arched and when a quad platinum plug failed (those things are shite). It did come on I believe when I blew a dizzy. What's the mileage on your plugs, wires and dizzy?

Maybe 8000km, on the oil maybe 1000...but im thinkin now..It might be the head gasket..my plugs are soaked in oil, and im burning oil like no tommorow.

RRRex Jul 18, 2005 08:03 AM

Ew. That could be bad. I'd start with a compression test to rule out the bottom end...bent rods, rings etc. Then pull the head and look for bent valves and a blown head gasket. Is there coolant in your oil or oil in your coolant? Are you losing coolant? Is the smoke in the tailpipe white or blue?

95integra Jul 18, 2005 05:05 PM

smokes white, and i burn alot of oil away, no coolant in the oil, or oil in the coolant. stinks really bad too.

RRRex Jul 18, 2005 05:18 PM

White is coolant, blue is oil and black is the fuel is rich. Sounds like a sick motor if you're losing oil too. :( The no oil in the coolant worries me a little. Not a lot, might still be a head gasket. Take it in and get it checked out. If it is a motor, it's cheaper to pick up a low mileage one from an importer than trying to fix yours. Could also be an opportunity to pop in a bigger motor. :) B20s can make some good power now days, and the torque is stronger than an ITR. Think they run around 1100 for a long block.

If I swap in anything it'll probably be a GSR, and my oil stopped burning, misfire is still there, but i think its because the cyl with the plugs getting flooded, n the burning oil came from me flooding the oil into the motor. timings off too. and the valves need to be adjusted. all getting done this week, then the governor is coming off..and the ECU getting chipped, installin an engine management system * tuning comp* and it should be good:)

checked the distributer..and it was off a little bit throwing off my timing, we loosened the bolts..an moved it a mm..and right away the misfire wasnt as bad...so im taking it in to get done.

That's a relief. Get your mechanic to take a look. Maybe the ignitor is faulty. Obvious place to start is to swap in fresh spark plugs, ignition wires, and distributor cap/rotor but with only 8K on your setup it's not likely - but you might have got bad parts, it does happen. If that doesn't help, then look at swapping in a good ignitor and/or coil. Beyond that, it could be an electrical gremlin, something as simple as a loose connector to the ECU, loose ignition wire, had a friend who got a missfire and tracked it down to a cracked ground wire near the thermostat. At least the motor is good and sounds like you're putting in some pretty trick parts. :)
