Lowering 1999 SE on H&R sport
Well I called around a few shops today to get some quotes for lowering my car, and each one seemed really concerned about siezed bolts in the rear. One of them even mentioned I would need new lower control arms if this was the case! Anyone ever experience this and is it really that bad of a job?

I lowered my teggy myself...for the most part. The rear bolts are most likely seized in the lower control arm bushing. You can either do it yourself or you could get a shop to do it.
Basically whats required is to cut the bolt and then press out the old bushing and press in a new bushing. So you pay some labour + new parts. It also depends if you take off the arm and take it in, or if you bring in the whole car. Mine i think i got $45 a side + bushing + bolt...almost came out to $200 extra than planned. Edit: OR you could just buy new rear lower control arms (OEM or aftermarket) and replace them yourself. Im not sure on the fitment of aftermarket ones since i hear some don't have sway bar holes and whatnot. Someone else can input stuff here. |
i to did my own, luckily the rear lca bolts were in good condition, no cutting needed, it went off without a hitch took like 2hrs to all four, its not hard you just need to know the tricks and what to do if you get stuck, also have a friend on hand that knows what they are doing, helps alot, my buddy is an acura mechanic, i did the work and he drank my beer and corrected any mistakes i did aswell as add some incite

I just got my car lowered the day before and everything cost me 235$. I have a 94 teggy and was putting in Tein S-tech springs. I got dave to install it for me in hamilton and the install cost 185 plus 55$(with tax) for the rear bushings because mine were seized. He did a great job i really recommend him.

You have three options..
1. replace the control arms with OEM replacements 2. replace the control arms with aftermarket replacements 3. replace only the bushings that you torch out The last time I lowered my car I opted to replace the whole control arm with OEM replacement.. That includes three brand new bushings pressed in from factory - I think I paid about $110 ish at dealer. |
my 99 se front springs was relatively easy to replace the springs, but the back springs was pretty bad...
i got dave yo (addicted performance) to install it and he torched the bushings out and replaced them... if the back is seized its a pain... |
Dave did my 2nd setup and none of the bolts were siezed. i had a spare set of rear LCA's and i had them sand blasted and painted and put in some ES bushings.

when i installed my current suspension set up, i bought all new bolts from acura. one broke so i had to cut it with a hacksaw and the other one got stuck in the bushing.
i put in a set of aftermarket lcas (pic, but skunk2, blox, omni, srr, they're pretty much from the same factory) in place, instead of replace the existing bushings.. it's about the same amount of money ~$100. there's a hole for the rear sway bar, but i also have a beaks kit and a 22mm itr bar that i have yet to try and connect with the factory endlinks... which i think i need to either replace or find spacers and bolts for. |
Sorry to kinda jack the tread, but I got half way thru lowering my 1999 se today. Front were easy. Rears weren't. broke both Lca's that connect the shock to the lower control arm. then broke the one that connects the lower control arm to the bottom of the brakes.
Now here's my question. I have no acura dealship within an hour of me. Could I get Honda to put Eg 1992-1996 civic bushings in. Since Ppl on teamintegra say there the same lower control arm? Thanx Matt |
