A list of issues with my car...related?

Hi,

I never drive my car at night, but with the shortening daylight, i used my headlights after my soccer game Friday night for the first time in months. I noticed the following things don't work anymore.

-Intermittent wipers (have known that for a while)
-Rear defogger (have known that for a while)
-Interior light (have known that for a while)
-The chiming warning when you leave your head lights on and/or keys in
the ignition when the engine is off

Have any of you guys experienced the following problems? I don't want to take my car in and have a chop try and diagnose everyone of these issues separately and charge me for them, when they could possibly all be related.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this question is lame or "newbish."

One more note: all of the fuses are fine.

Cheers,
-DJ

For this problem :
-Interior light (have known that for a while)
-The chiming warning when you leave your head lights on and/or keys in
the ignition when the engine is off

Check to see if the "open door switch" isnt seized up. There is a small L shaped looking slider (plastic and black in colour) close to the hinge lock. Its not on the door though, its on the car itself. Once you see it, slide it back and forth. You might need to lube it a bit, or it might just be stuck the one way. I had this problem in the past and if I manually open and close the slider it temporarily fixed it.

As for this:
-Intermittent wipers (have known that for a while)
-Rear defogger (have known that for a while)

Check your fuses inside your car. There located on the left driver side close to the floor. Depending on what you drive of course. I drive a DA so a DC might be slightly different.

Hope that helps!

Could be a relay or something.. What are you driving anyways? Cause the relay wipers on my integra is useless.. Cant select the time between swipes, only one setting. I very very rarely use it.

DJay75 09-08-2008 10:42 AM

it's a '99 and it doesn't have the switch you mentioned on the body of the car. it's a sensor on the body of the car at the bottom. a switch that depresses encased in a rubber piece. it must be a relay or some electrical issue. faq. the only thing i need working is the defogger. this morning i couldn't see ---- until 15 minutes of driving through the rear window. winter will be a nightmare with this not working.

Just drive with your windows down :P . Hope you figure it out bro!

pace? you cooking pasta?

Buff4Prez Yo 09-10-2008 12:49 AM

if you keep popping fuses, the fuse is either too weak or you have a short somewhere

DJay75 09-10-2008 08:54 AM

not afraid of the dark, i'm afraid of driving my son in the winter with ice on the rear window. i can't believe how many things use this fuse indirectly or directly..whatever. it was nice to have everything working again for two minutes.

i meant peace. forgot the e. pace and pasta? the f*ck is that all about?

buff, it says to use a 7.5. that popped 3 times. must be a short. byou have a shop don't you? can i come buy with some timmies, beer, whatever for you to take a peek at it (i'd pay you for labour obviously)? unless someone knows a shop around the GTA that knows their ----. i had an alarm put in when i lived at keele and eg for a couple years and the guy put on auto door openers which haven't properly worked for years. i hear some switch cycling once in a while. sounds like the trunk release or something. anyway this is a pisser.

g2tegg 09-10-2008 09:54 AM

Mark, a.k.a buff4prez, doesnt have a shop, Daveyo does (Addicted Performance). But thats in Hamilton, which is a ways away from you..
I say put the biggest fuse you can find in there!! When you smell smoke, then pull it out. lol probably not the best idea........

DJay75 09-10-2008 10:02 AM

lmao! thanks G2TEGG...
