light brake pedal!

today i was driving...and suddely i hit the brakes and it was super light...good thing i pulled the brake and it came to a stop. i started to accelerate again and this time i braked and it was fine...so i thought maybe it was snow and i was slipping. but then it happened again. what is wrong? i think i have to pump the brakes a few times before it actually starts getting hard and wroking. le tme know what you guys htinks the problem is...thanks!

Smartass pHO 02-26-2007 12:03 PM

Talk to Orthow....I'm sure he can help you.

5pecial_ed 02-26-2007 05:32 PM

does anybody know the problem? it's jsut realy light...it's hard when the car is off..but once i turn it on..it sinks down when i press it really easily..and then i pops back up..but it's liek super ass light.

Gs-R-edline 02-26-2007 05:37 PM

Silly question... but have you checked your brake fluid??

Have a look..... lemme know..

James

5pecial_ed 02-26-2007 05:41 PM

i jsut checked..it's full..same as before

5pecial_ed 02-26-2007 05:42 PM

oh yeah...even when the hand brake is down...the brake light is stil on..

HKJ 02-26-2007 06:03 PM

you probably have air in your system. do a proper flush, it should go away.

if that doesn't solve your problem, then you might wanna check for leaks, or replace you master cylinder.

Gs-R-edline 02-26-2007 06:03 PM

no squeeling? when was the last time you did your breaks..... if there is no leak.... and your pads are newish.... and don't look effed I would bleed your breaks for the sake of 10 mins.... or just go and swap the fluid full out.... but if you havn't done any work to your breaks recently It quite possibly is your the master cylinder..

James

5pecial_ed 02-26-2007 06:27 PM

yeah..i just got my clutch master cylinder reaplced too. i dunno...i skid yestrday cause of the snow.and i hit a bank..either that effed up my braking system.or the brakes caued me to hit the bank...shrugs i ahte this snow. i did my brakes and pads back in may 05. so they should be ok.

Gs-R-edline 02-26-2007 06:56 PM

Ah I hate the snow too... you would think I would be used to it by now... the older I get the more I hate it..... If you Just just had your master cyl replaced... could be air in the lines.... bleed em.. as for the skidding.... go slower! lol good luck!

James

HKJ 02-26-2007 08:00 PM

5pecial_ed 02-26-2007 11:00 PM

my mechanic checked it out...we found a leak under my driver seat...is this common?

Vtec_Concept 02-26-2007 11:08 PM

a leak under your driver's seat...

uhhh care to explain a bit more?

how does a leak under your driver seat relate to your brake problem?

5pecial_ed 02-27-2007 12:13 AM

ti's leaking fluid...the brake fluid hoses i believe...and its' under teh car ...my mechianic says this is common for most hondas/acuras after 10 yeras

esguerra 02-27-2007 12:21 AM

i thought you said your brake fluid wasn't low?? so how do you have a leak...

i was gonna say either you have air in the lines, or your master cylinder is bypassing liquid...

5pecial_ed 02-27-2007 12:47 AM

yeah is it low...my bad...and there is a leak on under the car where the driveres seat is. i know its leaking..cause when my mechanic went into the car..and pumped the brakes..i saw it leaking out...but is this common for hondas and acuras of thsi age?

WildoutWhiteGSR 02-27-2007 01:07 AM

does it really matter if it's common or not. Get it fixed.

first it wasn't low on fluid, to now it's low on fluid and leaking.

ur mechanic is gonna have your balls in his pocket when he's done with you

Vtec_Concept 02-27-2007 08:34 AM

oh okay not under the driver seat leak, you mean a leak under the brake pedal itself...

if that is the case, that is really bad.....fluid should not be entering into the cabin like that.

no wait a minute, I know for sure that cant be possible, I cant really see how a person or even a mechanic can make brake fluid enter the car...

unless anyone on this board wants to prove me wrong, but would not mind seeing this done.

sounds like you need a new master cylinder (if possible, put in a 1" M/C if compatable with your Teg) while that is being done, get a the fluid bleed out of the system and changed, get all that air out of the system

OEM rotors and pads are cheap to grab these days, maybe look into that to. This option is if you want a complete brake job done.

oh and brake hoses, dont really go bad, very rare unless something is obstracting it in some way like a suspension component is hitting it

as well IMO maybe its time to find a new mechanic.

5pecial_ed 02-27-2007 09:32 AM

the reason why i said it wasn't low on fluid..cis cause i checked the other one taht was wehre i'm suppose to pour clutch fluid in...but then he came to check it out...and he checked the other one(the right one) and there was no fluid. and what i mean is it's leaking under the car...like right underneath my driver seat under teh car...it's leaking...he says my hoses are leaking. so do'nt diss my mechanic...if anything i'm the one that made the mistake.

Vtec_Concept 02-27-2007 10:09 AM

well it was juss an honest opinion...

yet again, I dont see why hoses have a part to do with your brake problem?

Its juss so rare to blame rubber hoses ??? I admit maybe I am wrong, but dont mind learning something new....

maybe its juss me, usually with a brake problem like yours, M/C, air in the system, low fluid are the most common to mention and should fix your solution ...brake hoses very rare..

esguerra 02-27-2007 01:52 PM

lol, clutch master and brake master are impossible to mix up!!! bustin your balls...

but i dont get how fluid is leaking under the driver seat in the cabin...unless you mean under the driver seat under the car itself, but in that general locating...i guess could be possible, if you bottomed out really weird and cracked a fuel line...but i really dont see that happening...either way, just fix it since you know the issue now...

another fucked up idea if its IN the cabin...maybe one of the seals in the master is leaking, which leaks fluid into the brake booster, which finds its odd way into the cabin, down the brake pedal, and landing mysteriously right under the seat!! lol

SIC1 02-27-2007 05:58 PM

his name says it all..... I can't believe you were the sperm that made it to the egg.

Gs-R-edline 02-27-2007 06:46 PM

^LOL nice

James

5pecial_ed 02-27-2007 08:45 PM

well i've been told that something is rusted...and now thast why it's leaking...i duno whatever

esguerra 02-27-2007 08:51 PM

if thats rusted, i would check the other steel lines as well...

5pecial_ed 02-27-2007 09:28 PM

thasks esguerra...yeah..he jsut said it's r ust.and he wants to check my other steel lines as well. but over 10 years..it's common for this stuff to rust i'm assuming..

5pecial_ed 02-27-2007 10:12 PM

i've been told that my brake lines are not rubber..and thast whats' rusting..

WildoutWhiteGSR 02-28-2007 12:03 AM

ur mechanic is gonna have your balls in his pocket when he's done with you

5pecial_ed 02-28-2007 12:08 AM

waht do you mean by that bro?

esguerra 02-28-2007 06:05 AM

well your brake lines are never rubber...but your flex lines are rubber...

and what trenell basically means is that if one of your brake lines is rusted, that means your others are too...and that if your mechanic is replacing that one line, he is gonna wanna replace all the lines, and that is a tedious job...

especially if he is flaring the lines himself...lol...make sure once lines are replaced, cover that bitch in grease...

Vtec_Concept 02-28-2007 09:08 AM

rusting brake lines eh? and maybe the other lines as well

wow that is a huge job...

yet instead of doing that big job, why not take the suggestions that everyone has told you and try askin the mechanic to do that first.

well good luck on fixing your brake problem.

might I add thanks esguerra for explaining how brake fluid gets into the cabin, LOL.....that was a good one :D

5pecial_ed 02-28-2007 11:07 AM

yeah...thasnk vtec concept...he'll check it out..thasnk for the advice

esguerra 02-28-2007 02:26 PM

lol vtec, it could happen....

i was just thinking...if the brake lines are rusted, im not sure but they might run alongside the fuel lines as well...---- goodluck!

5pecial_ed 02-28-2007 05:34 PM

yeah man..----...hopefully my fuel lines aren't fucked too!

5pecial_ed 03-05-2007 12:05 AM

go tmy brake lines repalced...but now my brakes feel so different...before the brakes were very sensitive...i could just touch them and they woudl brakre..but now..they seem a bit ligheter and softer..meaning i have to press down further to brake..is that normal after chaning the brake lines? or is it possibl taht theres air in the system still?

WildoutWhiteGSR 03-05-2007 12:30 AM

air in the lines
