knocking noise
 

i have a 1994 integra and whenever im drivin after a while and come to a idle, there is a loud knocking noise coming from the engine. does anyone know what the problem could be.

im not sure but on my other american car my engine seemed to knock because the belt tensioner was shot but youll usually hear squealing before the belt starts to slip/skip/jump

usually when u begin to drive the belt rotates quick and u dont notice the knocking much

i verywell may be wrong tho it could be ur motor

A belt will on squeal, and a pully will squeak. Normally if there is knocking in the engine, it could be a rod bearing starting to lets go. The only way to know what it is, is have a mechanic look at the car for you. Every one on here can guess all day long at what it could be, but with out looking at it, you will never know.

The lifters in my Grand Am knock on start up becuase theres a bit of oil in there >.< but once it heats up it goes away

yea knocking could be a hole load of things. my buddys rebuild KLZE in his probe made/still makes the dirtiest knocking noise, but it runs mint andf has never had a problem in the last 45000 kms.

my motor made a weird noise on the timing side for a while, and i couldnt figure it out at all, and i just kinda ignored it, and then after a bit my tensionor broke so i mean, it can be really hard to tell. how old is your motor and what havent you done in a while in terms of replacement/maintanence?

edit* also is your car standard? my old clutch bear was really bad and when i would sit with the clutch let out in nuetral, it sounded terrible. so like spike said, could be anything. without looking/listening to it to pinpoint where the noise comes from, good luck guessing.
