k24a2 Swap

S0o0o im bored..just wondering... anyone know if the k24a2 and trans would fit fine in a DA? if so, aprox price for motor and trans?? anyone know??
or would a H22A be cheaper? :S and by how much?

The k24 motor and tranny should fit w/o a problem. IIRC the only K mounts for a DA that is currently available, is from Innovative but you might have to modify the mounts some how. Another snag w/ this swap is that K24's are all drive by wire systems. So you will have to change the Throttle body from a K20 @ least to make it work. K20 swaps have lower ground clearance, and the k24 block is a little taller.

I've seen K's been swapped in anything and everything. It really depends on your budget. It's all about the two extremes of things; I would say just to get the car running it would be around 7K. If you want to go balls to the wall w/ K-Pro, DTR/SSR racing header.... blah blah blah, that could run you north of 10K when it's all said and done.

As for the H two two, I wouldn't do it, yes it's a potent motor but it's a heavy beast. It will severely alter the way your car will handle, b/c of the extra weight on the front wheels. Straight line performance will be greater, but turns will suffer.

Besides, the trannies on the 22's are pretty weak, which could be remedied by a H2B adaptor plate, but you will also have to find a B-series tranny. The timing belt tensioners are known to fail, which can lead the nasty head damage. Last time someone did a H swap @ my cousin's place, it costed about 4-4.5K can't remember correctly. Keep in mind that was years ago.

IMHO I think you should just stick to a B-Series, tried and true performance.

Hope that helps....

Oh okay, thanks alot, that helps

You wont have to mod the mounts. You will have to buy or fab the engine bay mounts for the mounts. If you get it :P

cutout the existing pieces where you bolt ur mount thru. then weld a new one in that will fit the k series mount.

JustinDM 05-02-2010 05:32 PM

Yeah... the only reason why I said that you might have to mod is b/c of the differences in a block height. The Innovative mounts were designed for all K20 motors, thus meaning that the motor itself was lowered further in the engine bay to clear the hood.

So if the K24 motor is 7 or 11 mm taller than the k20, you'll most likely have hood clearance issues.

No matter what, you will have to drill out the original mounts on the passenger side, and weld in the new mounts.

No worries 1GoodYr, if the information I provided was of some use, then I did my part.

Yea, justin told you all you really need to know.

Your next step is putting it in and figuring out all the plumbing and wiring

So when guys cut their hood for the K24 to stick through, they are just doing it for show?

JDM_overdose 05-03-2010 10:31 AM

Youll have to get a hood like this

Ahh I see. I was always wondering if they HAD to do that, and if the rain/etc wouldn't mess their engines up. And at least that hood doesn't look lie a muscle car engine, which IMO is pretty ghey on a import.

is there a reason u wanna get the k24a2? why k24a2? go for the k20a2.. it'll save u gas and is smaller and much lighter than the k24

Usually you should take that ---- to an electrician.. atleast in my case. Wiring is ridiculous in cars and makes no sense to me.

k-powell4lyfe 05-12-2010 06:33 PM

any suggestions which one to take it too?

Datenshi 05-13-2010 01:55 PM

Any electrician you take it too will be able to fix it, just shop around your area for a cheap one if you can't fix it yourself, it shouldn't cost too much to get it done. Otherwise..Check all the wires, make sure the connections are secure and everything is wired properly by following the wires.. other then that it's about as much electrical knowledge as I have lol. Goodluck.

Prepare yourself to spend A LOT of money if you do a K20 swap...

H22A is MUCH cheaper
