JUN 3 Cams - Price reasonable?

Last weekend i priced out JUN 3 cams for my GSR build.. i was given a price of $2500 for the kit or $2300 for just the cams... is this a resonable price?

My only other option is SK2 P2 since i already have the SK2 valvetrain..

Thanks

Blue Dragon 03-02-2006 09:35 PM

Thats a rediculous price, just get some Skunk2 stage 3 cames.

xtant_man 03-02-2006 09:47 PM

the JUN 3's and Sk2 Pro 2's are very simular profiles.... i guess the difference is in the quality and "name"..
I got a price of $1400 for the SK2's
that the norm? or am i gettin ripped?

Reza 03-02-2006 10:28 PM

I can get u sk2 pro 3's for $900, ur getting ass raped big time.

WildoutWhiteGSR 03-02-2006 10:44 PM

Skunk 2 Stage 2 and Jun 3 Cams are very similar.

Skunk 2 Pro 2's are huge cams and require atleast 12.5+ compression ratio. They're not the same as the Stage 2's at all.

Dude your getting raped on that price.

xtant_man 03-02-2006 11:06 PM

Thanks... i know not to shop there now.....

nightstick 03-03-2006 12:06 AM

oops.

Jun 3's, BC4's, S2S2 all use the same lift VTEC lobe. WWG is dead on. S2P2's are enormous. they require 84mm & 12.5/1 c.r. minimum. S2P1's are actually bigger than the old S2S3's. anyway, just buy a set of Blox B's. they are 100% S2S2 copies, and sell for $400US. you can get them shipped to your door for a bit over $500. lastly, S2S2's are supposed to be very close in spec to JUN 3's, but, i've never seen S2S2's make JUN 3 power up top, nor carry the power as long. JUN3's are special.

xtant_man 03-03-2006 12:34 AM

thanks for the info... does anyone have a set of the SK2 P2 or P1? im interested in the Cams ABDC timing......

WildoutWhiteGSR 03-03-2006 02:45 AM

It's hard to find much info on them, but the Pro1's open at 48 degree's. +- a degree depending on cam gear settings. I'm not sure on the Pro 2's.

Pro I+ for B series
INTAKE lift- 12.6 mm, duration 264 @ 1mm
EXHAUST lift - 11.9 mm, duration 264 @ 1mm

There huge cams though. Basically in stages from least aggresive to most aggresive in the Skunk 2 lineup, it goes -> Stage 1's, Stage 2's, Stage 3's, Pro 1's, Pro 2's and Pro 3's.

Friend of mine just started to carry skunk 2 and crower products, crower stage 2's $250US plus shipping, If you're interested throw me a PM.

All his skunk 2 products are alittle more then the crower but not by much, Definatly under $450US

Blue Dragon 03-03-2006 06:51 AM

You'd need a pretty built motor to run the pro 1s or 2s. With that amount of lift, you'd have to be checking retainers for wear every often too.

RRRex 03-03-2006 07:53 AM

John at Option has a good deals Buddy Club Spec4s with full spring and retainer kit.

BC3+'s/BC4's are probably your best bet if.i recently saw a B20V make 244whp with Blox B's (S2S2's). if you want good usable street power BC3+/BC4 is the way to go. these two cams makes rediculous amounts of midrange, with the 4's making monter top end to boot. BC3+'s will still domintate S2S2's/Box B's up tp 8K. if its a rev happy motors your are building(9K), Blox B's/BC4's are good. if its a daily driver,(8200-8600rpm) BC3+. lastly, aftermarket valvetrain is required for all of these suggested cams.

xtant_man 03-03-2006 06:00 PM

its B18c 85mm..11.5:1 (only have 91 octane where i live)

the cams i have, have a ABDC of 56' that way to compression hungry (at least 11.8 min) and an LSA of 106' amazing up top ---- for bottom....

i was looking at the JUN 3 since the low cams are some what "stagared" as the CAT's i have are not.

if Pro 2's or 1's have a ABDC of less than 50' then im still making good cyl pressure... and dynamic compression

this motor will be run up to 9300.. i have full sk2 valve trainand S/S valves.. im accually looking for a less agressive cam than i have now...

WildoutWhiteGSR 03-03-2006 06:23 PM

For that compression I'd be looking at BloxB/Skunk 2 Stage 2's like nightstick said. Jun 3's or Buddy Club Spec 3's.

The buddy club's being the best bang for the buck. It also depends on what kinda peak numbers your looking for?

Also listing your setup would help out a lot.

xtant_man 03-03-2006 07:25 PM

ive been throught the whole "list" and the "goal" thing many many many times. and i HAVE done my home work..... henace why i was looking for the acuracy of the pricing i had got on the JUN 3's and the SK2 S2's.....

Thanks for all the info ....

BC4's, hands down. especially seeing that your 85mm. is it 87 or 89? i have a set of BC3+'s & S2P1's. ABDC of the BC3+'s is 45 degrees and the P1's are i think 51. obviously cam specs help, but, most cam profiles are very different. cam slopes are different for every cam. its so hard to manipulate the numbers to compliment the build. anyway, Buddy Club's cam profiles produce some of the broadest powerbands i've seen to date. i bought my cams off of TBone from HT. i've spoken to him a few times (as much as my phone bill will allow) and he's tested alot of cams in his motor. i don't know exactly what he is making now(25x ish), or what cam he's using. but, he made roughly 240+whp with bent valves revving to 10,500rpm. that was on BC4's. right now, there really isn't any off shelve cam that makes broad power like BC4's in big motors.

Are you sure it's a good idea to run an 85mm piston to 9300rpm? I've never calculated the piston speed for 9300 before, but it's pretty high. With the thinner walls, I'd think you might want to pull that back a bit. But then again, I've broken rods on a stock ITR motor that was revved to 9K so I'm a little gun shy.

xtant_man 03-06-2006 08:41 PM

being that to use 85mm pistions i had to sleve the block my cyl walls arent "to thin" IMO... and im using "H"-beam rods too...so far i havent had a problem.....

xtant_man 03-08-2006 06:40 PM

Here's something i found on the S2 website......

http://upload3.postimage.org/63871/dyno1_1_.jpg

WildoutWhiteGSR 03-09-2006 10:29 AM

^^^ yeah it's been on there for awhile now.

It's not quite a accurate comparison though.

Buddy Club Spec 3 is made for use with ITR valvesprings and around 10.6 compression.

Skunk 2 Pro 1's require aftermarket valvesprings and around 12.5 compression.

see where I'm going....

xtant_man 03-09-2006 05:02 PM

oh i understand there are too many variables to make this camparison accurate... i found that it was interessting that they choose to compare the BC3+ vs. the Sk2P1...
as as usual with most cam comparisons it the missing info as to what motor and its mods(i/h/e/CR/RR..etc) for both cams......

Thanks for the charts... i apreciate it..

RRRex 03-20-2006 08:44 AM

BC3+s definately have a flatter curve which is more useful for my app. Much more usable and road racer friendly. I was amazed at how much power the car had pulling me out of corners. I'm more than willing to give us some top end for torque and mid-range
