Intake bypass and Dynamat question
 

Wut up everyone..long time lurker, first time poster...
Just wanted to know how important a bypass valve or filter is to have with a cold air intake. Does everyone with a cold air have one and is there an alternative to the $80 at pac. mall for one (other then convert to ram..lol)

Also has anyone tried a "make your own" dynamat. I just need something for the trunk floor and maybe trunk walls to prevent my exhaust drone from taking over my system. I heard roof insulation works coz of the tar..any comments or suggestions?

It isn't important. Unless you drive thru 2 foot deep water daily.

A part of the filter being covered won't hydrolock your car. You have to have the filter fully submerged under the water to hydrolock your car. Which would mean driving in 2 foot deep water.


A alternative to dynomat that's cheap is the padding under carpets, but you got to use a lot more compared to dynomat.

Regarding your question about the dynamat substitute, avoid using roofing tar as it's not made to be installed in vehicles. On warm to hot days, it will emit an odour similar to ashphalt (since it's ashphalt based). Try to look into different brands like Brown Bread and B-Quiet. Brown Bread is pretty much the same as Dynamat Extreme but about two thirds the price. B-Quiet has a variety of products which are significantly cheaper but still good in quality.

Also, getting rid of the exhaust drone might be difficult because what you're hearing "might" be the sound of your car resonating with the exhaust. It will take quite a bit of deadener to change the resonance of your car... but it never hurts to try!

Would a bypass valve even save you from a day like that day?

By-pass valve or no by-pass valve, you'd have to be pretty damn stupid to even consider driving your car through one of those ponds.

The by-pass valve may be a good "insurance" mod, however, if you're driving through two feet deep water on a daily basis, you have other issues to conern yourself with rather than a by-pass valve.

good thing i took off the cai last week sunday... lol.. my parking lot at work was flooded and i for sure would've sucked up water.....
