Installing a CD Player

Anyone have experience with this, or someone who can help me install it? I'm ------ retarded when it comes to electrical.. I've got the harness and everything wired up ( to what I think should be done ).. but for some reason I can't get it to work... Anyone wanna help me do it?

Vida 06-04-2010 03:52 PM

When you mean wired up, do you mean are there cut wires and did you just electrical tape them?

Audio Heaven does deck instals for like 50 i think, and they'll do everything right

I bought the deck from Nizmo for 25$, I don't wanna pay 50$ to install it. And yes, I wired all the wires according to the harness and the manual for the actual CD player and then electrical taped wires together... Anyone good at installing decks and I can drive over and we can figure it out?

I would have left it up to the pro's in the first place, if you connect wiring in an incorrect fashion, it can result in destroying the deck entirely.

As long as the wires are in the correct order it should work it is not such a difficult thing to do. I would go though it once again and make sure they are in the correct positions.

where you at man? if ur near scarborough i can take a look at it if you like. You probably blew a fuse

I never let anybody install decks for me. I've done over 15 of them by now and it can't get any easier.
Question:
- Did you cut the OEM plug off and splice the wires from the deck directly to the OEM harness? Or did you use a wiring harness that plugs into OEM harness and connects to the wiring from the deck?

Check the fuse on the deck and also under the hood (I believe there is a radio fuse).
For the deck to power on you need just 2 wires. The red one which is a power and a black wire which is a ground. With these two wires connected it should power on.
The 3rd wire, yellow one, is a constant which allows the deck to keep clock memory and your presets.
If you have a multimeter, check if the red wire has power with ignition on.

Same thing happened to me when i installed my deck, when i went back to double check the wires, it was a loose ground.

I live in North York, DVP and Eglinton.

And scrid3r I bought a harness.. I didn't want to cut the OEM plug. I wired in the black and red where they should be.. possibly even the yellow. The deck turns on.. for about 5 seconds, then powers back off.. I push the button it turns back on.. then turns back off after 5 seconds.. I can't switch to radio mode, cd player.. anything like that. I thought it might be something like a fuse.. maybe, but my knowledge of this shouldn't be taken for a fact heh..

danny.t 06-05-2010 10:03 AM

if it turns on it might not be the fuse, it could be the deck. a good way of testing if it even works, take the deck out and pop ur hood. wire the black (ground) and yellow (constant) wire together and place that on the negative part of ur car battery (black). get another person to take the red wire and hold it on the positive terminal of the battery (red). if the deck turns on, the deck is okay then u kno its ur wiring or a fuse. from the looks of it im pretty sure its the wiring.

Datenshi 06-05-2010 10:22 AM

I'm far from an expert, so it could be wired incorrectly, I did the best job I could following wiring diagrams and matching colors lol.... does that method really work? it wouldn't blow the deck? (Not that my battery is really charged to begin with.. ------- electrical system, I swear there is a ghost in the car.)

danny.t 06-05-2010 10:29 AM

ya, i got scammed recently i bought a deck that didnt work and never saw the a-hole again, but a friend taught me that method of testing decks ( he works at futureshop) and it really worked. but make sure u have 2 ppl though, 1 doing the black and yellow wire and someone else doing the red wire. lol otherwise somethign could happen lol.

but if ur completely clueless about this stuff, and want some help im located at warden and 401 pretty close to where u are. shoot me a text ur welcome to drop by im cleaning my teg anyways so ill be outside. 416 917 0886

Yeah I'm stuck at work til 6pm, if I can get my friend to jump the car so I can turn it on and drive it I'll try your method with my friend and see what happens.. if the deck turns on I might give you a call to help me install it.

But I really need DoS's help with the cars electrical system as well, so let me know where the hell Steel City is!

danny.t 06-05-2010 11:54 AM

i think its in hamilton cause thats where hes located

Buff4Prez Yo 06-05-2010 06:01 PM

did you tap the deck harness in to the car's harness?

you're best off getting the adapter harness from BB/FS

As I said a few times, I have a honda harness that I bought already.. I didn't cut into the OEM plug.
