Ignition Module - 94 LS Ingegra

Hi,

My 94 2dr Ls (1.8) broke down last night and against my better wisdom I had it towed to canadian tire...because its the only thing close to my house. Anyway it wouldn't start. The battery was solid (though we tried boosters anyway)...it turns over it just won't fire up. I was assuming it was either a moisture issue (it was pissing rain last night) or a starter or spark plug or some ---- like that. Anyway they diagnosed it and said I need AT LEAST an ignition module ($300 OEM from dealer 2 day wait or $220 third party from Crappy tire depot 4-6 day wait). I opted for the OEM cause I need my car! So now I'm stuck with no car till Monday or Tuesday.

Oh they said they might have to change the 'coil' as well but won't know till they put the new module in. There is no delay in ordering the coil.

I'm looking at around $520 or $600 with the coil total.

Thought I'd post here and sort of get a second opinion...is this a typical thing to go at this age (240K KMs)....and from the symptoms above? It was starting just fine until last night...except I'd say ONCE earlier this week where it did turn over for 3 or 4 seconds before it fired)......I was realling thinking/hoping it was just something simple like a loose wire and I'm really worried that Crappy Tire is screwing me...not intentionly but through mis-diagnosis...

I'll ask for the old ignition module back...is there any way to test it?

Thanks in advance for your replies..

Varrus.

you could buy a complete used distributor for a fraction of that off the boards

coil new 40$ dizzy 150 at standard auto. anyone here or even i'll put it together and install it for you. i'll do it free of charge if thats the problem with the car. dont let those pricks at crappy tire touch the car..or u'll be expecting another few hundred $$ by the time they done.

wow they're raping you i'd have them try the coil first. they're trying to get you to buy the more expensive part first knowing you can't return it because it's an electronic part. partsource has a tester for modules take it to them and ask them to test it.
