Default HID Help!

So my friend gave me 2 free balasts, but i have a problem...
i have a jdm front end, and the 1 peice lights

the bulbs he had didnt fit, so i cut around it to make it fit,
then night came, just went out to try em out, and they dont put off any light

pretty might right to the ground downwards, in like a v shape?

there was only the one spot to put em, do i have to put a new hole? or is that where they go, and i just need special bulbs that fit properly?
