Help with tire size selection for 17" rims

Default Help with tire size selection for 17" rims

I recently bought 17" x 7 msr rims. Need help with the tire size. should i go with 205/40/17 or 215/40/17.
Its for 2000 integra gs stock shocks.

Either one works most people use 205 because 215s will usually rub if your lower your car your better off getting 205s incase you decide to lower your car in the future and if you blow a tire they seem more easier to get ahold of new and used

Agreed would go with 205's but you might still rub if you lower the car even with 205's I ran into that problem when I dropped mine.

I am not planning to lower the car.someone told me the 215 gives u some cusion to protect the rim but that wat i was thinking that it might be over and start rubbing when i do full turns.so i think i'll go with 205/40/17.Thanks for help guys

i went to a tire place today and they have 205/45/17 in stock .Would i be ok with these or should i stick with 205/40/17.

I think 40 profile is really thin a 45 might be better. I think you'll be fine with the 45 if your not dropping the car.

Hold on a sec here.... First off what is the offset of your rims? This will greatly effect your choice. I have a set of 15" rims at home that will NOT work on 94+ integras. they were fine on my g1 (just) but had too much offset and the 205/50-15 tires rubbed.

Secondly you should do some research on tire diameters before grabbing any tire. Going larger in diameter will cause your car to be much slower on acceleration. I would not go any more than 1-2% larger. the 205/45-17 is 3.3% larger. The 205/40-17 is identical in size to a 195/55-15.

Also remember although those 17's will look cool the weight of the rim is further outward and you will find you car slower as well. If you amplify that with a tire that is too large you are compounding that problem.

And look at tirerack.com for tires..... stupid cheap. You can buy them online. There are 12 different tires for under $100ea in your size. One for only $67!! For $268 you can get a set of tires shipped!! Plus its actually cheaper due to the strong CDN dollar. And you don't pay their tax because they are not located in NY!

They ship in 3 days to a warehouse in Niagara Falls NY for free and you go pick them up. All you have to do is pay the taxes come over the border. (about $35) I have been doing this for a couple of years now. Just remember to pick them up In Niagara Falls NY. that way you save shipping and brokerage fees to Toronto.

This is the shipping warehouse I use: CBIUSA.com They charge only $5 per tire to hold them there for you... So for $20 you can have them there for 1-2 weeks.

The rims are MSR 113
4x100/114.5
Offset 40 mm
Back boresize 72.64 mm
So what do you guys recommend in terms of tire size as i was thinking 205/40/17 would be a skinner tire and may damage the rims and 205/45/17 is bigger then the recommed tire dim.

You NEED at least a 7" rim for the 205/40-17. I cannot see any reason to go to a 45 profile. If a tire sales person is pushing it then he just wants to unload the t5ires on you and does not have your best interest in mind!

Just remember that your tire inflation should be higher. The 40 sidewall will be extremely stiff to protect the rim edge when cornering. I would suggest speaking with the technical group at tire rack for pressure recommendations.
