Help needed, all engine mounts are broken
Took it to Acura today because I thought that weird thump that I have was the clutch, turns out all my engine mounts are broken.
Where do you guys suggest I buy them from? Acura quoted me close to $900 for all 3. Without labor. And how hard is the job to do alone? (With some help from a mechanic-friend) Help appreciated. Thanks Oh and, what kind of damage can be done if the car is driven a long time with the broken mounts? Thanks. Omar |
I wouldn't drive the car at all.
www.--------.com can get you mounts. They are local, good prices and excellent service. |
there is no way all three mounts are gone. i told you take it back to canadian tire and tell them to fix it since they did safety on it!
|
when i replaced my rear mount, it was completely detached and none of the rubber finger thingies were there. same with the lower torque mount on the tranny side near the subframe. the driver's side torque mount had 1/3 finger thingies left. basically my motor was held in place with the tranny mount and the drivers side upper only.
if your mounts are gone, especially the rear engine mount, you'll notice that when you're driving and left your foot off the throttle or get on it, the shifter really moves. mine was so shot that it kept popping out of 5th and 3rd. |

Yeah the shifter toggles back and forth a bit in 2nd 3rd and 4th gears, but doesn't pop out of gears so at least thats a good sign. I really need to get this fixed tho, where'd you fix yours? |

But yea, If you have to replace them, you might as well go with urethane mounts rather than paying 900+ for OEM. |
a car doesn't even need a motor or tranny in it to pass safety.

just as long as you have the right tools and a good jack to support the motor, it's not that bad. |
DIY..pretty easy man...basically put jack under motor (using a piece of 2x4 so u dont damage the header), take off 3 bolt for rear engine bracket then 3 more bolts for the subframe, then put new mount in. dont put the bracket back on cause u will need to raise the jack to lift the motor to change the motor mount & trannie mount (the rear bracket should stay off because that will allow the engine/trannie to tilt easier...basically a leverage thing), then bolt that one up then go to the trannie side. trannie side u will need to lower the trannie down to remove and get to some of the bolts easier. Ill tell you later on for sure cause we are pulling my buddies gs-R motor from his eg..until then, somebody please correct me if im wrong, thanks

just buy avid mounts or hasport mounts.. round 5 bills... stiff and youll never worry about them breaking...
|
Thanks for all the info guys, yeah i'll be doing it myself with one or two of my buddies tomorrow.
It may be a cheap brand but i'm on a limited budget (since i just bought this car for 8K+)so i'm gonna pick up a set of Yonaka mounts from Teknotic tomorrow. Thanks for the help again. BTW, for the first time today, every gear has a major grind. Whats the deal with that? Could it be from the broken mounts? |
ya that's possible. don't keep driving it like that. if it continues after you've done the mounts check the fluid on the clutch MC
|
the plating on those yonaka mounts where too thick so we just bought a generic one for the one that was bad (the firewall mount!)
|
Problem fixed, thanks to 3 of my buddies, we spent 7 hours last night from 2-9 pm playing up with these stupid mounts, damn Yonaka garbage parts were all too big for the bolts on the subframe.
Anyways Teknotic gave me a full refund after I told him what garbage parts they are. Thanks for all the help and btw, the grinds stopped a little, but still happens a little in every gear, for sure not as smooth as it was before. |
