help determining cold start problem
 

hey guys ive been having some trouble...

Symptoms:
ive been having idle/start problems when i start my car in cold weather.
when i start the car it fires but immediately starts choking and struggles then it dies.

IF i give it some throttle and maintain it at like 2k or w/e rpms for like 30 secs and slowly release then it doesn't die and stays idling at like 1.1k and then momentarly goes up to ~1.5k where it stays until it starts warming up

What i think:
the car is a 96 which is originally OBD2. ODB2 does not have the FITV to adjust idle speed on cold start like ODB1 but uses the IACV to do that job

the thing is my car was converted to OBD1 but im still using the OBD2 throttle boddy that dosnt have the FITV.

so does this sound like my problem with the start/idle problem is becuase i dont have the FITV and could resolve this problem by swaping for an OBD1 throttle body?

ive tried searching mutiple forums but cant really get a clear picture if this will actually solve my problem and i dont wanna buy another TB not knowing if this will actually work.

if anyone could help me out ill really appreciate it.

The FITV doesn't have any electrical connections that I'm aware of so there shouldn't be any issue with the OBD2->OBD1 change.

my car is 96 so it does NOT have the FITV thus nothing to be cleaned... with obd2 the ecu uses the IACV to adjust idle for cold start
i read that obd1 does NOT use the IACV to adjust cold idle but depends on using the FITV so SINCE i do not have this i believe this is my problem.
so i think changing to a OBD1 (95) TB that has the FITV would solve this issue.
the thing is i have not been able to find any article or anyone else talking about similar issue with ODB2 -> OBD1 perhaps this is because for most people in the states it dosnt get as cold and they never run into this problem

yah i have and im pretty sure its working fine my idle is fine after the car runs for a couple mins my main thing is trying to determine if in fact this problem because i dont have a FITV on a now odb1 car

i've only ever really had problems with cars that originally had a FITV when you remove/bypass it, I know lots of people with obd1 converted cars that don't have this problem.
